Topics will range from low-budget, mobile compatible solutions using third party players like JWPlayer to comparing more robust, streaming options and modern, standards compliant options.Â

Maybe you should be. Afraid that the end of the mobile Flash player means throwing away those hard learned animation skills? Not necessarily. If you know your way around a timeline, you could be at the forefront in creating animated graphics for both mobile-friendly, standards compliant, HTML5 canvas animations; or creating for the high-speed powerhouse of animation that is Stage3D. Rich Humphreys examines how to take an animation built in Flash and bring it to HTML5 canvas using the Easeljs library, then how to take the same animation to Stage3D using the Starling framework.

January meeting - Touch Screens are so 2007

Xbox has the right idea with Kinect. They looked to the 2002 movie "Minority Report" and it's gesture driven touchless user interface. Now some of the best game experiences mirror this approach.
Now if we could just connect Kinect to Adobe AIR, designers and developers could be free to create all sorts of interesting and beautiful interactions and user interfaces. This was the goal of our Speaker this month at AUG. Ross Gerbasi, developer from 15letters.com, has written a series of Native Extensions for Adobe AIR that lets developers use the Microsoft Kinect SDK.
First Ross is going to show off some of the many cool things Kinect and AIRKinect will let you do, then later he'll dive into how he got it to work and show us how to start taking advantage of it today.
This stuff is so cool, we are giving Ross the whole evening. We are positive both pixel pushers and code monkeys will both be inspired by the possibilities presented.
Perhaps hover events are not such a bad thing after all.

Ross Gerbasi
Location:
Ascend Training
410 S. Michigan Ave.
Suite 433

This month The Chicago Adobe Users Group brings you another two spectacular speakers. For beginners in web design and promotion we have a presentation on Search Engine Optimization with John-Henry Scherck from Digital Third Coast. For those of you already in the trenches, struggling to find a better way to get designers and developers to collaborate, we have a workflow strategy for making HTML5 apps presented by Sasha Dzeletovic, a Senior Consultant from Pathfinder Software.
**NEW**
We are also going to take a few minutes to talk about recent events regarding Adobe and Flash. Hopefully we can answer most of your questions.
Have you ever wondered what makes a site rank for competitive terms in the search engines? Learn from Chicago’s leading search engine marketing firm, Digital Third Coast, on how to quickly and easily optimize sites to rank well in Google, Bing and Yahoo! John-Henry Scherck, an organic web strategist at DTC, will be discussing the most important factors when it comes to making a site rank #1. From creating a web page that targets a particular key phrase to high quality link building tactics that will boost your site’s rankings, this presentation will cover all the basics to help you bring in more search engine traffic, business leads and transactions for your site – including SEO workarounds for flash content.
Sasha will present a workflow for creating HTML5 apps that allows designers and developer to remove friction in collaboration and lets them focus on creating great experiences together.
For designers, he will show how you can organize your design in Adobe Illustrator so that a developer does not have to interpret your design and you don't have to keep slicing your design for production.
For developers, he will show how you can code straight against this design by pairing SVG with JavaScript.
This workflow integrates well with Git source code versioning so it's friendly to remote collaboration and big teams.
As a result of saving this time and effort, you can let your craft shine.
Aleksandar "Sasha" Dzeletovic is a senior consultant at Pathfinder Software in Chicago. He departed his designer roots 12 years ago to immerse himself in Flash and make designs come alive. While mastering the art of programing, he keeps realizing how quintessential design is in the digital world. A firm believer in "Design is how it works", he tries to bring engineers and designers together by lowering the barriers between them.
Sorry. No actual turkey at this month's event.
