Book Review: Adobe Photoshop CS5 for Photographers by Focal Press

"Adobe Photoshop CS5 for Photographers is such a great book, it’s been helpful to me. I knew some basics about Photoshop when I started reading this book but the instruction on specifics for photography tasks was helpful.

I liked the layout of the instruction used by Martin Evening because when he explains a technique or task it isn’t a step by step 1,2,3, more it is almost conversational with the the instructions embedded in it. I found this method to be a little more easier to learn from.

What is also helpful is you don’t have to have a prior knowledge of Photoshop to use this book, he sets you up in the first chapter and explains the basics to you to get up and running - if you know Photoshop I think you could still glean some useful nuggets from the first chapter.

Martin goes into some of the conventions of computers and photography liked how to set up a proper editing solution, from computer to actual room you sit in, he goes over the must do’s of capturing your photographs from your SD or CF Cards and how to manage your files. One of the unexpected things I learned about from this book was how useful Adobe Bridge and it’s capabilities are. Before this book I thought Adobe Bridge was a shipped-along-with-Photoshop no use program but I see the light and how this program can really assist you with your editing and photography.

This book is huge, not because of ramblings but because of so much information from masks, touching up, Adobe Bridge, Lightroom workflow, RAW image processing.  The last useable page before the index is 727 so you have plenty of goodies to learn!"

No April Meeting !!!
Entry posted on Apr 17 by Cole Joplin

HI Everyone,
We will NOT be having an April meeting for the group, which would have been tomorrow night. We have a few reasons for this. One of which is my mother-in-law passed away, so I was not going to be able to make it.
Another major reason is that CS6 has been announced at the NAB trade show, and many of the Production Premium updates were demonstrated. This means we can start to talk about this update. The closest guess is that CS6 will be released before June (likely mid-May). Instead of taking July off, it makes more sense to take it now, and talk CS6 over the summer. It's extremely likely that our giveaway in June will be for a CS6 license, which is great news.
The next meeting will be May 16th. See you then!
