Event Description: The Wii-mote had a long run but when you can just stand up in the middle of the living room and shake your ass to control a virtual Michael Jackson people go crazy. Lucky for us the Kinect is built on an open architecture which now has libraries for most programming languages including ActionScript http://www.as3kinect.org/ The Kinect is really a video camera that can monitor the distance every pixel is away from the camera. With this people have been doing some interesting body tracking along with just creating some interesting new types of effects. Our friend Colin has one that he will be bringing in tomorrow so we can see what we can get out of it. If you have a Kinect also try to bring it so we can try a few things out. If you have ideas of things you want to create post them to the list. If you are looking for inspiration check these things out, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ho8KVOe_y08 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xwgu7n_8RY4 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KaFLdmRfMoc

Event Description: Tomorrow developers from RIM and Adobe will be in town all day long to talk about tablets. Even if you are not able to go to this event you are still invited to the after party where Adobe is buying drinks and the devs should still be hanging around for questions. We are joining forces with Jesse Freeman's group and Adobe to bring this together, you can read more about the event here http://www.meetup.com/nyflash/calendar/12415899/ It's going to be a good time I suggest everyone try to make it. So don't go to Think coffee, go to Whiskey Town on 3rd st. It's only a few blocks from Think. If you have not signed up for the RIM meeting yet it might be to late but email me off list if you are interested. Also next week we will be having our annual holiday party (with presents!) this year we were thinking about doing a show and tell of what everyone has made over the year but lets talk about it over drinks tomorrow night. We have a GoogleTV, a Droid2, a copy of CS5, books and maybe more to give away which should be fun.

Event Description: As front-end developers it's hard to break into what happens on the other side. Most of the server side languages are structured much differently and they deal with issues that are much different than the ones we face within the web browser. Wednesday night I will break all of this down and show you how all of this works in Node.js. The concepts apply to any language but Node is a great place to start because it's language is standard JavaScript and if you know ActionScript then you understand the rules that JavaScript abides by. We'll start with the basics of ports and proxies and move to things like routers and databases if we have time.

Well Wednesday night we are going to clear all of this up by explaining the reason the browser is structured the way it is and show everyone how to use the built in browser technologies to your advantage. We will cover the main differences between the browsers, how CSS layouts work and the basics of the DOM.
