A Bright but Busy Future

May promises to big a big month for HPM. We have two webinars, a beginner core class, and a new "volley" competition dropping all in one month! Coincide this with the launch of CS5, and Houston is buzzing about Photoshop!

Leading off the month is a small departure from PS; we're hosting a webinar about Illustrator to introduce PSers to the magic of vectors. There was a time in my life where Illustrator terrified me. A co-worker and I had a deal; if it was a Photoshop file, I would work on it. If it was an Illustrator file, he did. Looking back, I wish I'd jumped into vectors when I was first introduced to them. They're far more compact and tidy, and their ability to work across applications makes them incredibly versatile.

We're also hosting a Beginner class, and I'm pretty proud of this; this is when advanced members in the group step up to share their knowledge in a small, intimate setting. This gives all the members the ability to get up close and personal, share experiences and ideas, and really connect on a social basis. Design is generally a solitary business; people rarely get out and get to know other people in the business. This gives everyone not only a learning opportunity, but also the ability to network with people of in all types of media. Heaven knows it never hurts to have a "friend in the business," especailly where design or photography is concerned.

For our more advanced users, we're rolling into a selections & mask webinar late in the month, and I'm excited about launching a Volley Competition in conjunction with one of our member's websites. This will give members a chance to put Photoshop to work in a practical environment and show them how to think on their feet in design. It should be an interesting competition, and the influx of sponsors have made it possible to give away some great prizes for our members!

Speaking of prizes, the CS5 Swag Package hit my doorstep this week, and we are prepared to have one heck of a CS5 party! I look forward to sharing the information about this amazing release with our members... it is my hope that we will have some of the most well-informed, trained, and educated people in the business.

Dear Photoshop Freinds,

Would you like a copy of the CS4 Premium Design Suite? Who wouldn't, right? Well, all you have to do is head over to our Meetup site and redesign the banner. Upload your entry (no limit to amount of entires) and the best entry will win.

Yes, it's that easy.

The contest ends at midnight, March 31st, 2010. Voting will open on April 1st and continue until April 9th at 5pm. At that time, the winner will be announced and the winning banner will take over our site.

Please don't let me down, Photoshop people. I cannot have a banner that sucks. It is just unacceptable.

Design Premium combines Adobe InDesign® CS4, Photoshop® CS4 Extended, Illustrator® CS4, Flash® CS4 Professional, Dreamweaver® CS4, Fireworks® CS4, and Acrobat® 9 Pro with additional tools and services. It retails for $1799.00 on the street. This is really the easiest contest you've ever had to win such an AWESOME prize. All you have to do is OPEN PHOTOSHOP and make something COOL.

Ready, set, go!
