    Speakers:

In this meeting we'll be looking at how the benefits have advanced since the last meeting, and working out details of the book review club.

We'll definitely have a speaker other than myself this time, it was great to see that some of the attendees in the October meet are going to get involved. Get in contact if you'd like to speak.

We'll also be placing all attendees into a raffle for Adobe software package of their choice. This will be given away in time for Xmas, so make sure you join the group and let me know you'd like to attend!

I'll add more details here as the date draws closer.

Hi all, I'd love to hear from any Flex AS3 RIA gurus in Africa who may be interested in a training assignment.

Amongst others, you must be able to train:

    • Flex Components

    • Data Binding

    • XML
    • Data Models, Data Providers

    • Remote Procedure Calls

    • Loading sub-applications
    • ActionScript 3 Design Patterns

    • Flash Media Server is a bonus

Please get in touch through aug_dbn@aug.co.za if interested or know of someone who might be. This is an exciting offsite training opportunity.

Patrick Gunderson is an renowned artist who mainly uses the power of ActionScript to generate his work. He also dabbles in Processing and other programmatic generation tools.

He's kindly allowed Durban AUG to use his work in the promotion of our events, so many thanks to him for this!

For each event, I'll be posting a new DAUG wallpaper here selected from his catalogue.

Take some time out of your day to enjoy some of Pat's amazing work on his blog, here.

And here's the December wallpaper, 'Etude 1 in Yellow and Red and ActionScript'. It's 1920x1080 so should scale down well to lower resolutions. Enjoy!

Please do spread the word of the DAUG as best you can (woof), looking forward to introducing even more Durban creatives and developers at the next meeting.

A quick message to say how enjoyable it was to get together with you all at the first DAUG last night. I have a great feeling about the future of the group from the enthusiasm and skills of those who came along.

It was great to meet Chris M, Chris L, Caryn, Rodney, Julian, Emrys, Vernon, Hayden, John, JP, Esthera, Andre & Karen.

Thanks to Skye, Les & Michelle from Keyline for support, grub and setting up the space.

...and thanks to Toni who was teaching in the room next door for putting up with us!

Please let me know if I missed you in the list above (I've a feeling there are a couple missing..?), as these are the people I'm putting in the draw for the $2100 Adobe software raffle. You'll be combined with those who attend the next meetup in December (First Thursday, the 3rd December 2009) and someone will win the software in time for Xmas :)

    Durban Adobe User Group Agenda
    October 2009

Though the group is new, now is the time to shape the future direction of speakers and events, so we're glad you'd like to be a part of it. See below for the agenda of the meeting this Thursday. If you need directions on the way give Keyline a call on 031 312 85 60

    When:
    October 1, 2009 from approx 6:00pm - 8:30pm

    Where:

    Keyline Graphics
Suite 10 Bexhill - Ground floor
    453 Windermere Road
    Durban
    4001
    Map: http://www.keyline.co.za/contact-us.html

    Agenda:

    1. Welcome
    2. Future direction of DAUG and call for speakers
    3. DAUG benefits + Adobe Software Raffle Info
    4. 25 minute Demo: Ajaxian Dreamweaving (Matt Would)
    5. Networking and Snacks
    6. Show and tell (opportunity for participants to demo / announce your own projects
    7. Close

    Info on the demo:

The demonstration will cover some of the different ways Ajax works in Dreamweaver to create menus, tabbed areas, effects, galleries and more. I'll make it as relvant as possible to all backgrounds.

For example, designers will appreciate the way they can create richly interactive user interface elements for websites quickly and ActionScripters will be able to see how they can use existing skills in a HTML website, to manipulate elements on the page.
