While this is shameless self promotion I thought it's technical trickery and the final very playable game was worth publishing to the community.

It's a near full implementation of a Pac-Man style game in 25 lines of ActionScript 3.0 code. As an entry into the 25-Line ActionScript Contest it had to conform to some quite restrictive rules so the code formatting is not my usual beautifully formed object oriented class structure. The code is now open source as a result of being a finalist in the contest.

Apart from sound, which I planned to implement on line 25 but ran out of time, it is a complete and playable version of the game, with increasing difficulty and basic artificial intelligence for the ghosts. The techniques and somewhat unusual hacks implemented were a result of doing my best to stay within the rules, it certainly did push them to the edge though!

In total it used only 24 of the 25 lines and the compiled .SWF weighed in at a tiny 4.40 KB.

If you'd like to see the code and play the game and perhaps even vote for me ;) then you can access it here http://www.25lines.com/?page_id=231 .. if you decide to vote my entry is 007 ..you can't really miss the Pac-Man game amongst the other finalists .. you will need to register in order to vote.

I will be sharing much more code for various game engines in a much more readable form in future!

An ominous title but harmless fun really.

The group name gives it away. I am actually referring to the people behind the games. If you have played a game online before and wondered how they are made then you are likely to find the answer here.

It's safe to say that the majority of online games today have been created for the Flash player using ActionScript. The latest version ActionScript 3.0 or AS3 has introduced many new tools and performance improvements making the art of online games creation even more rewarding.

The ActionScript Game Architects group is open to new members from all areas of the games industry. Artists, designers, programmers, developers, producers and publishers will find this group a great place to make contacts in the industry. The only requirement for membership is a passion for making or playing games so you don't need to work in the industry to contribute to the community.

We have plans for online and real world meetings where ideas and industry knowledge can be shared, friendships started, games launched, techniques discussed and participation by all encouraged. Inspiration and innovation will be just some of the many benefits of joining!

Well it's "Game Over" so join now and meet your maker!
