Capital District Flex Developers Network March Meeting
Graphics for programmers - Cort Winters
It is part of the typical expectation that a Flex application is going to look good, whether you have access to a graphic artist and interface designer or not. The components look nice right out of the box and there are a great number of things built into flex to allow for some pretty nice looking behavior. But it's still pretty easy to make an ugly Flex app and many programmers feel a bit intimidated about the subjective nature of graphics and ui design. And if you do have a graphics artist or interface designer, it's unlikely that they will be technically capable of doing the production work of importing their designs? So how do you make your Flex app look like their photoshop composite?
It is the goal of this presentation to offer as much help as possible to that traditional programmer, both technically and aesthetically when it comes to graphics and ui design.
In particular it will focus on three things
1) Design Tips on what to do and what not to do so that your application at least look professional, if not stunning, when you don't have access to a graphics designer.
2) Techniques for good layout and smooth transitions.
3) Different technical methods of styling skinning and creating dynamic themes
