Responses to the questions at the end from Mark Doherty.

All: Acceptance and Feedback during the Pre-release
Markd: The pre-release of the Distributable Player was prioritised to developers in US, Spain and Italy (our initial launch countries). We deliberately kept the pre-release numbers down to under 200 to ensure adequate levels of support. As we move forward you may all use Adobe Labs to retrieve binary installers for S60 and Windows Mobile, or use the OTA option if you're in a supported country.

During the pre-release we received masses of feedback all of which culminated in countless meetings and product changes. I think we've really got a great product here and with your continued support we can only ever improve.

I'm always listening :)

Alen Alebic: whats with stand alone apps on SonyEricsson phones and the new packager, will it pack NFL files for S40 5th edition?
Markd: Right now the goal of the Distributable Player project is to provide a consistent platform on Open OS devices. We are actively working with all our OEM partners to enable the update of Flash going forward through the Open Screen Project. Still, with this project we are planning to enable support for built-in players, and in our next release we'll start to enable that for some platforms.

Carlos Nazareno: how about the local connections limit?
Markd: I need more info <for Marks email, drop a message in my inbox>, alternatively you should test the Distributable Player to ensure that the bug has gone.

Carlos Nazareno: like how many fscommand2 local connection requests per second
Markd: I need more info <for Marks email, drop a message in my inbox>

Carlos Nazareno: Appzone -> I believe centralized market was key to iPhone app store's success
Markd: This is true, however the AppStore targets a small number of devices relatively. We believe that by enabling support for multiple distribution points then we are enabling you to choose, keeping your options open.

Carlos Nazareno: I saw from the initial list of handsets supported during the prerelease, one of them was a S60v3 first edition.
Markd: We do support the N73, and this is the earliest device possible. However we are investigating ports to older platforms where we feel the user base are still actively using new features.

Fintan Boyle, Dublin: Northern Ireland is included?
Markd: That will depend on the network configuration, we use IP blocking and its quite possible that it won't work. I don't believe that this will be a sticking point for long, but do let me know if you have an opportunity. I will be in N.Ireland twice before April and will test myself.

chall3ng3r: can this player be installed on devices which already have FL3 on them
Markd: Yes, the OTA player has no effect on the built-in players functionality. In the future we'll enable you to choose which player to run your application on.

chall3ng3r: will adobe also publish low level FL APIs for S60 and WM?
Markd: Yes, we already have a considerable S60 API set with our Adobe Mobile Client and its certainly going to feature in Adobe AIR. With the Distributable Player we have a new plugin mechanism for just that purpose.

Alessandro: Matt do you know if I package content via packager and distribute the content in other countries, will it launch the default player? or will not work?
Markd: No it won't use the built-in player or download the OTA player due to IP blocking, although we will add new countries quickly. When we release the final Packager on Labs (Feb 16th) we will require the use of the OTA player, this was the price we paid for the security model fix. In a future release we will allow you to bypass this and work with the older security model.

Again, we hope you enjoyed the presentation, and hope we have covered everything we could not answer on the night

Ciao Darren,

having the AppZone would it slow down the overall process since Adobe would have needed to certify the application "AppZone" for each country/operator and firmware variations. Just think about the all localization issues.

I personally think that Adobe focusing on the core technology is better.

Alessandro

Thanks Alessando, that's a reason I can understand. Since I'm not in the prerelease program, it's all kind of fuzzy how this was supposed to work, anyway. Perhaps it will become more clear when the tech hits Adobe Labs after MWC and I can try it out for myself.

Cheers,
Darren
