The meeting location is in Hyuck Auditorium which is on the first floor of the A Building. This area is best accessed via the front entrance "The Pillars" or via the Physician's Pavilion entrance on the south side of the hospital. The 60 New Scotland Ave garage (next to Hilton Garden Inn) is designated for patient and visitor parking. Additional ground-level patient/visitor parking is available in the A-bldg Physician's Pavilion (aka 'Blue') lot, located near the front entry to Albany Medical College and accessed from New Scotland as well. Street parking is also available, and there will be no meter fees at that hour.

Speakers

Glen Culbertson wrote his first program for money in 1968. Since then, both as an academic social scientist and a programer, he has written in many languages, on many operating systems, with many databases and toolkits, for projects in such domains as research control systems, data analysis and statistics, simulations, expert systems, financial analytics and modeling, and business process modeling and implementations. After two decades of working on Wall Steet, he spent most of the last decade working on projects to implement a middle-tier business rules and processing application that implements the Manchester model of concurrent processing with a visual programing language. He recently picked up Flex, largely in order to work on projects in which the design elements would dominate, because Flex promised an effective work-flow cycle from designers working in Flash to developer and back. He has since been striving mightily to get modest mastery of Flash Builder's affordances.

Note the new location. We will be alternating between New Horizons and Albany Med through June, trying them both out.  We will choose one as our permanent location starting in the fall.

  Troy Shares strengthens the Troy-area community by multiplying and deepening interactions among neighbors while providing an alternative basis for economic activity.
  Description: Troy Shares is an exchange network, in which members exchange services valued as hours of their time. The exchanges need not be reciprocal, in that I may receive hours from people for whom I do services, and give hours to completely different people for completely different services.
  The exchanges are moderated by a time bank, in which hours are transferred from a service receiver's account to a service provider's account.
  The time bank and exchange network is implemented as a Flash Builder data-centric application with server side PHP services for a MySQL database.
  The primary founders of Troy Shares will present their project and describe the functionality they need to implement it, and will demo the Flash application that supports it. Then the developer will describe how he employed Flash Builder to meet their functional requirements, including what he found straightforward to achieve and what presented more of a challenge. This will be particularly oriented toward the obstacles faced by a developer who is not an expert with the toolkit.
  The presentation will wrap up with the users giving their hopes for future enhancements, and a discussion of how such enhancements might most adroitly be implemented.
