SD to HD: Compressor Settings for Up-Scaling DV

Entry

I had a few requests to post my settings for taking footage from SD to HD.  The thing about Compressor is that it uses some really top notch math to do pixel matching and motion smoothing.

There are a couple of things to look for in this setting.  The first is DeInterlacing.  Make sure that option is checked or that you are starting with video that is already deinterlaced.

Next, check the codec for your output.  If your original file has an alpha channel, you'll need to go with something like Animation Codec and Millions of Colors+ (the plus is the alpha).

Finally, keep in mind that this scales the 4x3 image to a really big 4x3 image.  You'll drop this clip into your 1280x720 comp and move the layer around to get the correct framing.

Have fun and let me know if you improve the setting at all.
