Entry: There will be no meeting for the month of February. We will see you next month!
Entry: We would like to give a big “thank you” to all of you who’ve supported MVCFUG throughout 2012. It’s been a challenging year, but as always we made it through. We are looking forward to a better year in 2013, and hope to have even better sessions and special events for all our members. Please be sure to check this site often for news and events. Happy Holidays, and see you next year!
Entry: There will be no meeting for April 2012. We apologize for any inconvenience this causes. See you in May!
Entry: There will be no meeting for March 2012. We will be back in April with more CF goodness!
Entry: MVCFUG is looking for presenters in (or outside of) the Dayton, Ohio area who would like to present on any ColdFusion or Web-development related topic. MVCFUG is a relatively small group, and our meetings are generally casual and laid-back. Members are engaged and knowledgeable, and always provide good feedback on sessions. Our meetings are the last Monday of every month, at 5:30 p.m. EST at the O’Neil & Associates, Inc. corporate office in Miamisburg, Ohio. If you are interested in presenting, please contact Aaron Wolfe/Lance Smith at managers@mvcfug.org. Keywords: speakers mvcfug ColdFusion cf
Entry: 2010 was a very successful year for MVCFUG, and we are looking forward a wonderful 2011. Thank you to everyone who came out to the meetings and contributed to our success! We'd also like to thank our sponsor, O'Neil & Associates, Inc. for continuing to support us and provide food, beverages, and facilities for our monthly meetings. Lastly (but definitely not least), we'd like to thank Adobe for the swag and other things they have provided throughout the year. Please be sure to continue to support MVCFUG. Again this year, we are looking for enthusiastic speakers who would like to present on ColdFusion, HTML, CSS, or any Web-related technology. Keep in mind that presentations can be anything from 15 minutes to an hour, and can be Powerpoint, code, hands-on, or a combination of all three. Our meetings are very informal and casual, and there are no "dumb questions". Stay tuned for more details on upcoming meetings for this year, and as always, don't forget about the Spring and Holiday networking events! See you at the next meeting! - Aaron and Lance
Entry: Yes, we know we've been quiet for a while. Aaron and Lance spoke at cf.Objective() in Minneapolis (what an amazing experience), and things have been extremely hectic here at O'Neil & Associates. We have been coding some great applications and trying to keep everything balanced. As we enter the spring/summer season, we wanted to take a moment to remind everyone to please continue to present ideas for the group. As more and more people are out for vacations and fun summer adventures, keep in mind that there are always great things going on with ColdFusion! The MVCFUG has some wonderful presentations lined up for the rest of the year as well. We hope to see everyone at this month's very special spring outing! More details to come soon.
Entry:
As 2009 draws to a close, Aaron and I would like to personally thank everyone for continuing to be supportive of MVCFUG. We have seen some new members (due in part to O’Neil hiring several more CF developers), and had some very informative sessions throughout the year. However, this year has also been a tough one for many. Adobe faced massive layoffs, industry gurus walked away from CF, many of our close friends and colleagues lost their jobs or were forced to moved on to other positions, conference plans were canceled at the last minute, and it seemed belt straps were tightened everywhere. I don’t think anyone was unaffected by the recession in some way or another. Still, some good things did come out of 2009. The much-anticipated ColdFusion 9 was released, Aaron and I were able to attend CF in NC at the NC State Campus in Raleigh, and we presented at BFusion/BFlex in Bloomington. We were also able to bring on new CF developers to our CF team at O’Neil, and are seeing our share of ColdFusion projects sharply on the rise. Adobe continues to invest heavily in the future of ColdFusion, and so do we at MVCFUG. We care about the community, and Aaron and I are working to make 2010 the best yet for the group. We are working on some new presentation material and recruiting new members from all around the Miami Valley and beyond—including some folks from Cincinnati and Columbus, and we even have a long-distance member from all the way across the country in Oregon (thanks, Mike)! This year, we are looking for more interaction from our members, including more attendee presentations and input. Aaron and I will continue to share our presentations and experiences, but some of the best knowledge that is shared comes from others. We are making a new year’s resolution to be more organized, and get meeting notifications posted much earlier than we have this past year. We are also scouting for some top names in the community to come speak, and hope to be able to use our resources in the CF community network to bring in some well-recognized and respected names for maximum knowledge transfer. As always, we need everyone’s input and participation to make the group a successful one. Please, don’t ever hesitate to let us know about a topic you are interested in! Again, we want to thank all of you for making this another successful year for MVCFUG. Without the support of our members and their passion for ColdFusion, we wouldn’t be here. We look forward to seeing you again in 2010. From the managers at MVCFUG, we wish you a safe, healthy, and happy Holidays and a wonderful new year! Entry: It's hard to believe it's Fall once again here in the Miami Valley. 2009 is quickly becoming a memory, and 2010 will be here before we know it! So much has happened over the past year, and we've all been very busy with work and life in general. Fall has no appearance of slowing down as we look forward to some great upcoming CF conferences. Aaron and Lance will be attending two consecutive conferences in October--CF in NC in Raleigh, NC, and BFusion/BFlex in Bloomington, IN. We will be presenting two topics at BFusion, and hope some of you might be able to make it out to Bloomington. From what we understand, lodging has become a bit of an issue for the conference, but we believe this is being worked through. It is only a short three hour drive over to Indiana and is well worth the trip. There were some excellent topics covered last year. Also, it sounds as though Adobe MAX is going to be out of control this year! It was announced that they will be showing 20 minutes of the new film "Avatar" in 3D on the largest screen in North America. Then, yesterday it was announced Mark Hamill (yes, the Luke Skywalker) will be presenting at the MAX Awards. How awesome! Anyone got about $3000 they can loan Lance to go out to LA? We will be having a Windows 7/MVCFUG event October 26th for our October meeting. We will be covering installing CF on Windows 7 for optimal configuration. We will also cover the CF conference events and what we learned while there. We hope to see all of you in the next few weeks!
Entry: Our next meeting will be Monday, August 31st at 6:00 p.m. at O'Neil & Associates, Inc. in Miamisburg. Food (Pizza Hut pizza and pasta) and beverages will be provided. Error handling is a critical part of Web development. While many developers know of its importance, many do not know just how important it is or how it can save the developer and the site users precious time and money. This presentation will cover everything from what error handling is to how to effectively implement it in a development environment and what NOT to do in a production environment. |
