FITC Toronto
Entry posted on Mar 12 by ShawnGoss , tagged Design,Development,Interactive Experience,Rich Internet Apps

It’s that time of year again, and FITC Toronto is right around the corner! (April 25-27th).  Once again, they have graciously donated a pass for us to give away at our next event.

This is a great event, and they have plenty of content for both the developer and designer.  The Toronto conference is now in its 9th year, and is one of the largest of its kind.  There will be over 70 presentations and panels, covering everything from the creative and technical, to the business aspects of Flash and digital media.

In addition to the presentations and panels, they are also running a full day of pre festival workshops, as well as the "FITC Get A Job" event on Saturday the 24th. This is a free to attend job fair for the Interactive industry.

And if all that wasn't enough, they also put on some great parties!  For more information head on over to their site and check it out!  Hope to see you there.

Bullet Proofing Flex Components
Entry posted on Jul 24 by Bob Strusa , tagged Development,Rich Internet Apps

There is a RIA Meetup (online) about components.  You can visit the ria meetups for more information.

From their site:

When you build components for your own applications, you are working in a controlled environment and can make a lot of assumptions about how your component will be used. However, if you want to release components out into the wild? It is inevitable that folks will use your component in ways you didn't consider; and they're going to blame you if it doesn't work. This presentation will cover some tips and tricks to help you optimize your components for reuse.

About the Speaker:
Jeffry is a technical entrepreneur and the brains behind Flextras, a set of interface components for Flex Developers.
He has a Computer Science degree from the days before business met the Internet and owns DotComIt, an Adobe Solutions Partner specializing in Rich Internet Applications. Jeffry is an Adobe Community Expert and produces The Flex Show, a podcast for Flex Developers. Jeffry is also co-manager of the Hartford CT Adobe User Group, author of 3 ColdFusion books and over 30 articles, and has spoken at various events all over the US.

In his spare time he is a musician, old school adventure game aficionado, and recording engineer. He also owns a Wii. You can check out the components at www.flextras.com/?c=107 , read his blog at www.jeffryhouser.com, check out his podcast at www.theflexshow.com or check out his company at www.dot-com-it.com

BlackBerry PlayBook Development
Entry posted on Nov 20 by ShawnGoss , tagged News,Mobile,Development

By now you all know that RIM has been developing a tablet to compete with the iPad.  The device boasts a gig of memory and a 7" screen with a resolution of 1024 x 600.  The device will also ship with full support for the Adobe AIR runtime!

To get started with development of PlayBook applications, RIM has provided a variety of resources and incentives to the community.  First, head on over to the BlackBerry Tablet developers website. (http://us.blackberry.com/developers/tablet/)  Here, you can find both the BlackBerry Tablet OS SDK for Windows and MAC. Also on the developer’s site, you can download the beta version of the BlackBerry PlayBook simulator.  Want to get the SDK running with Flash Builder Burrito? Then check out this Adobe Developer Connection article: http://www.adobe.com/devnet/devices/articles/blackberry_tablet_os_sdk.html

RIM has also created a webcast series, in conjunction with Adobe experts, to help get people up to speed on application development.  This 5 part series started November 4th, and recordings of the previous sessions can be found here: http://us.blackberry.com/developers/tablet/devresources.jsp

Finally, RIM has announced a developer promotion in which they will be giving away BlackBerry PlayBooks!  What’s the catch? You simply have to develop an AIR application and have it on BlackBerry App World before the launch of the PlayBook.  Details of the promotion can be found here: http://devblog.blackberry.com/2010/10/blackberry-playbook-developer-promotion-information/

Interested in learning more?  We'll be discussing application development for mobile platforms at an upcoming meeting.  Check back soon for a date and time!
