August Meeting: BlazeDS with Dave Ferguson

Title: August Meeting: BlazeDS with Dave Ferguson
Entry:

On Wednesday, August 3, Dave Ferguson (CFHour) will present to the Los Angeles ColdFusion User Group on ColdFusion 9 and BlazeDS.
BlazeDS is a great way to push a simple message from a server to a client.  It is typically used to create alerts on a logged in client, or even basic chat messages. But, what if it could be more?  What if it could be used to push larger data sets to a client?
In this session we will look into the basics of how BlazeDS works.  Once we get that out of the way, we will have some fun exploring other uses.  We will look into  pushing things like images and html chunks, as well as  json data sets to a client. The session will show how easy it can be to create, send and process different types of data.  All it takes is the right combination of tools and a little creative thinking.

July 6 Meeting: Ezra Parker on JavaScript Performance Optimization
Entry posted on Jun 23 by go2riarv@gmail.com

Title: July 6 Meeting: Ezra Parker on JavaScript Performance Optimization
Entry:

On Wednesday, July 6, Ezra Parker of Model-Glue will present to the Los Angeles ColdFusion User Group on JavaScript Performance Optimization.

Building complex JavaScript applications has never been easier, as libraries such as jQuery enable developers to write expressive, simple code that is reliably compatible with a wide variety of browsers. While the uncomplicated, intuitive API of jQuery is a huge advantage, it also makes it relatively easy to write JavaScript code that may not be optimally performant.

This session will cover a number of areas of concern when attempting to optimize for performance, demonstrating methodologies, tips and tricks that can be used to avoid some of the more common pitfalls. We will also talk about script loading, and discuss various approaches for loading JavaScript files that can be used to improve the user experience.

Ezra Parker has been developing with ColdFusion since 2000, and is an independent consultant and contractor. He is currently the Associate Director for the Model-Glue framework, and assists in organizing the ColdFusion Unconference at Adobe MAX. He also publishes a rather occasional blog at www.cfgrok.com.

Doors will open at 6:00pm, with the presentation beginning at 7:00. Pizza and refreshments will be provided.

The location is the same as the last few months:

TollFreeForwarding.com
5959 W. Century Blvd.
Suite 1111
Los Angeles, CA 90045-5475

There is free 2-hour street parking on the north side of the building, on 98th St., or you can park in the parking structure. There is a parking fee of $1.50 for 20 minutes (maximum of $12.50).
