Graphics Designer II is responsible for designing both print and web graphics. Provides art work for company under minimal supervision. Additionally, the Visual Designer develops global guidelines to ensure the consistent application of best practice, brand-aligned visual standards for a variety of products, services, and mediums across the Sprint customer lifecycle including: web, interactive multimedia, print, and handset. The designer works closely with UXD teams and stakeholders alike to deliver usable, useful and desirable designs.
-- RESPONSIBILITIES -- Translates requirements, ideas, information/interaction designs, and business/user needs into relevant, simple, elegant, and powerful visual designs that resonate with users. Identifies and documents relevant elements of these designs and leads the creation of global Sprint visual standards/style guides. Applies expertise in the following to achieve these goals: - Interface design and multimedia design - Identity design - Graphic design - Color theory - Iconography - Typography - Composition, layout, and spatial design - Animation, photography, and illustration Effectively and intelligently iterates designs via pinpointing key data points from testing, walk-thrus, reviews, etc., consistently infusing Sprint identity standards, and applying industry best practices. Works closely with information architects, interaction designers, content designers, usability researchers, product managers, and stakeholders to hone in on design objectives, vet out design issues, evaluate design trade-offs, and ultimately creates the best visual design deliverable for the situation at hand. Produces quality deliverables at every stage of the design lifecycle including: story boards, mock-ups (high/low), screen layouts, scenarios, visual concepts, specifications, and build file templates. Presents and communicates design ideas, concepts, strategies, and final design decisions clearly and effectively across various organizations in any format required (PowerPoint, Demos/Walk-thrus, conference calls, etc.). Able to sell, support, explain, and simply present design concepts/rationale to various audience types from sophisticated design experts to non-designers. Proactively identifies and proposes improvements, innovations, etc. to existing and/or upcoming designs. Follows thru by verifying feasibility, securing buy-in, and leading the initiative to implement. - REQUIRED --
Passion for design, design trends, great eye for detail, and ability to distinguish between strong and weak design based on classic design principles/tenets as well as current societal and cultural influences on design. Knowledge of the technologies/technical aspects (capabilities, constraints, major trends, etc.) behind the mediums that are being designed for, including: Web, handset, interactive multimedia, and print. Strong background in solving visual communication and orientation problems with a focus on user interface design. Advanced knowledge of web design and user-centered design principles preferred. Experience taking on a lead creative role in the end-to-end design of both wired and wireless products/services/features. Bachelors degree in Graphic Design, Digital Media Design, and/or other visual/communication arts. Related certifications and/or Master¿s degree as well as training in industrial design, information design, interaction design, and usability disciplines a plus. Ability to work effectively across multiple teams, gather input, resolve conflict, and gain consensus. Self-starter with a ¿can do¿ attitude who is dedicated to delivering superior results. Ability to effectively prioritize and manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment. Excellent verbal communication and presentation skills. Expert user of Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign and familiarity with Dreamweaver, Word, Excel, and Visio. Experience with After Affects and Flash programming a plus.
