'Join this Group' link restored 5

Title: 'Join this Group' link restored
Entry:

Due to a technical error (all my fault) the 'Join this Group' link was missing from this page for 24 hours or so. A thousand apologies! The button has been restored and I chastised myself appropiately (no coffee for a whole 30 minutes).

Normal service has been resumed.

Oh - and you are right, the map in the logo is hideous :-) I'll fix that as soon as I have 10 minutes to spare - or send me your suggestions :-)

AUG May Meeting is Here

Entry:

Welcome... Tis the time for another Gulfcoast Adobe User Group meeting and exciting things are afoot.

If you haven't heard yet, Adobe has announced the soon to be released Creative Suites version 6. There are so many improvements to our favorite software packages and over time we will try to explore as many as we possibly can.

Along with this release, as with those in the past, we'll be having a Launch Party of sorts at our June monthly meeting. We should have Adobe goodies to give away, food, drink and demos. I'll have more information as we get closer. We will also have our software raffle for the first half of the year and CS6 will be up for grabs!!!

Tonights meeting will focus on our roadmap for the remainder of the year. We discussed at the April meeting the possibility of having a series of demos and instruction building up to a final finished product, that being a completed mobile application. Tonight we will go over our options and any ideas or suggestions as to what our application will do. So bring your ideas and inspiration with you...

As always I look forward to seeing you all tonight.

Here are some of the benefits to User Group Membership:-

Lynda.com
- 20% member discount for the Online Training Library
- 20% member discount on CD-ROMs

Raffle
Adobe allows groups to request a piece of software, up to the value of $2100, every 6 months for raffle or door prize.

Access to information
Regular information from Adobe via UG managers, Adobe communications, presentations from experts etc.

I see various book offers, but some seem to be hard to quantify - thus hard to sell to prospective members as benefits

Your User Group Manager is usually an experienced developer or designer with years of experience with Adobe products. Steve Howard, the manager of this group, has 12 years experience as multimedia developer, specialising in eLearning. He has close contact with many Adobe employees and product enginees, which means that user group members can tap into a wealth of knowledge and experience right in the heart of Adobe.

Entry:

Hi all,

as you will have seen from our calendar, in this month's meeting I will compare Adobe Captivate and Techsmith's Camtasia. Adobe has given me some goodies - including a great laptop case - and Techsmith has given me a full license for Camtasia for Mac to give away.

As usual, I have oodles of smaller things to share with you all, in addition to some great information. Be sure to invite all your techie friends to join us!

Good User Group meeting last night

I wonder if some people had difficulty finding us in the new meeting location at JD? Sorry for the confusion that the location change may have caused, but we should be meeting in this new location at JD campus each month from now on. If you planned to attend last night but didn't find us, please contact me so that we can make sure you know how to find us next time.

I showed some demos of the new Flash Catalyst public Beta 1. Those who attended were very impressed at how easy Catalyst makes it to set up and create complex, interactive interfaces with basic transitions etc.

I've been busy over the last few months and so I have not managed to put in all the time that I would have liked into learning catalyst, so I cheated and showed demos from Lynda.com and InsideRIA.com.

I've attached a brief PowerPoint file to this blog post and the PowerPoint includes links to the demos I used. Please take the time to download the PowerPoint and check out the links. These will help you get up to speed with Flash Catalyst and show you most of the features in the current build. If you have not already seen a Flash Catalyst demo you will be impressed at the power of the tool!
