Adobe and the Flash Gaming Landscape with Joseph Labrecque

There have been a lot of changes with the Flash Platform over the past year or two – a lot of changes in the general web landscape in general. The role of Flash is shifting and Adobe is adapting to this shift by focusing engineering efforts, tooling, and community library support to the two areas in which Flash really excels: gaming and premium video experiences. In this session, we’ll have a look at the momentum behind Flash Gaming and see how Flash Builder 4.7, Flash Professional CS6, and Adobe Scout contribute to this momentum while taking advantage of the new Adobe Gaming SDK and the support of Stage3D libraries like Starling, Away3D, and Feathers. Interested in how to get started in game development with the Flash Platform? Don’t miss this session!

Cross-platform 3D to the Max!
With so many of today's digital platforms having built in 3D capabilities as standard, there has never been a better time to create 3D games for the casual user. But striking a good balance between performance and quality is something that requires a little more knowledge of the underlying systems to get right. From best practice design to neat coding tricks, this session explores the techniques at our disposal for wringing the best results out of any GPU accelerated system, using the popular open source framework Away3D to provide illustrative examples.

I've been using Starling in my last projects and learned a few tips & tricks that I want to share with You in the course of this meeting.

Although Starling can be used for Desktop & Browser projects I'll be focusing on Starling for Mobile more specifically for the iOS platform, I will show You how to develop a simple game that runs on iPhone/iPad both in SD and HD resolutions using a single code base.

Things we'll see on the meeting:

  • How to set up your Starling project in FDT IDE.
  • Create and prepare your Textures using Texture Packer
  • Set up your main class file so your game runs both on iPhone/iPad SD and Retina displays.
  • Set up your Assets class so it grabs the proper texture based on the device your game is running.
  • Create and implement Bitmap Fonts for your game texts using Glyph Designer
  • Test Debug and Profile your application both on the simulator and on physical devices.

Getting Familiar with Adobe Edge Animate 2
Event posted on Aug 29 by johnbarrett

Title: Getting Familiar with Adobe Edge Animate
Date and Time: October 25, 2012 05:00 PM - 06:00 PM (GMT-5 Eastern Time US & Canada)

RSVP

Speakers:

Joseph Labrecque

Agenda:

With the rising popularity of using HTML & Friends for motion and basic activity on the web – wouldn’t it be great if there was a tool with familiar controls and workflow concepts that could be leveraged toward the creation of such content?

Edge Animate is a new tool from Adobe which targets HTML5, CSS3, and JavaScript to create the kind of compelling web experiences people have gotten used to (through use of the Adobe Flash Player); but with the ability to target the native browser environment across desktops and devices regardless of plugin support.

This session aims to provide a solid overview of Edge Animate as a tool – and also place useful comparisons to similar applications such as Flash Professional, InDesign, and After Effects, when appropriate.
