Description: Mike Anitas will demonstrate using selections and layer masks to create transparency inside Photoshop and how to use that one image to create transparency outside of Photoshop for print and web. After creating transparency for use outside of Photoshop Mike will show how the transparency is used in Illustrator, InDesign, and Dreamweaver. Come prepared with plenty of Photoshop questions... Mike's favorite things!

This meeting is all about the members and getting to know one another and the work we do with Photoshop. The evening starts with a chance for you to network with other members. Next, the Member Showcase allows 6-8 members to show what they do in Photoshop.

To participate in the showcase, please email mike@vinestudio.com . Details will be sent to you. The deadline for member submissions is Monday, July 20, 2009. You can present as much or as little as you like. You’re also welcome to hang your work (painter’s tape only) and/or have a table to display your wares (need not speak to have a table).

Rob Arora is a freelance photographer based in the Seattle area, shooting everything from landscapes to conceptual fashion.  He will be giving us insight on his photographic inspiration and work flow process utilizing Adobe Lightroom 2 and Photoshop CS4.

Lightroom 3 was released on Monday, June 7. Laura Shoe gives us a firsthand demo of this amazing software for amateur and professional photographers. Lightroom 3 features include accelerated performance, support for DSLR video files, image watermarking, easy importing, perspective correction, lens correction, Flickr integration, easy to share slide show videos with music, tethered shooting and more. Come see many of the features and enhancements demonstrated by Laura.

Laura is an an instructor and fine art photographer based in Seattle, Washington. She worked for almost 20 years in the corporate world before pursuing her passion of photography in 2004. She particularly enjoys sharing her knowledge of Photoshop, Lightroom and other digital imaging topics with other photographers. She is an Adobe Certified Expert in Photoshop Lightroom 2 and Photoshop CS3, and in addition to offering independent workshops, she teaches at the Rocky Mountain School of Photography in Missoula, Montana, Photographic Center Northwest in Seattle, Washington, and the Digital Photo Academy, sponsored by Panasonic. We haven't determined the topic, speakers or activities quite yet. We got a ton of great ideas at the last meeting, so we are working on lining people up. Top ideas so far: painting/drawing with a Wacom tablet, Compositing, 3-D illustration, photography workflows and editing, altering photos, and going over basic skills each week (not meant to be a complete list).

Colin Bridges is going to speak about the technique of creating sprite sheets for 2d games using Photoshop and Flash ActionScript 3.  He will discuss how you can use Photoshop at the pixel level to quickly design complex game environments.  He'll also show how you can use ActionScript to "read" the finished picture and turn that visual information into the 1's and 0's that the computer can use to build a world.

Colin Bridges is a freelance animator and motion graphic designer.  After studying theater and film at Sarah Lawrence College, where he received his MFA, Colin worked for major networks like MTV, Showtime, Fox, and the CW.  As a motion graphics designer and animator for cartoons like Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Dinosaur King, and Yu-Gi-Oh, his work has been seen by Saturday morning cereal-munchers across the country.

We are looking for at least one more person who is willing to share a recent project or techniques with the group for 10 to 15 minutes. Email Liz right away if interested. Don't think twice, it will be fun!

SAPUG Optimization

Many thanks goes out to Mike Anitas for getting this group started!! Now it is your turn to help re-form the new group. Things to be discussed:

* leadership roles (Liz has volunteered to be lead organizer, but there is room for more volunteers).

* what types of meetings do we want?

* generate some great topic ideas

* how can we best showcase and support each other's work?

* fun projects, cookies, drinking, Charlie Sheen, and other pertinent topics are sure to be discussed.

Steve Laskevitch


Agenda:

Steve Laskevitch (Adobe Certified Instructor in Photoshop, Illustrator, Lightroom, and InDesign), Luminous Works' lead instructor, fell in love with teaching in the 1980s. With a background in education, physics, and photography, he has spent this first part of the 21st century teaching and doing desktop publishing. In 2003, Steve left Ivey Seright (he was their senior instructor) and founded the company that was to become Luminous Works, llc. Steve/Luminous Works has built production workflows for many companies and regularly helps Adobe Systems prepare Certified Expert exams. For four and a half years, Steve was the proud chapter representative for the Seattle InDesign User Group. He has taught in the Design Department of Cornish College of the Arts where he was awarded the Excellence in Teaching Award, Seattle Central Community College, and the University of Washington Extension.



Come to the meeting and join Steve as he present Tips and Tricks using WACOM Tablets.



Iola Stetson from WACOM will bring in one  or more tablets for us to get some hands on time.  This is a great opportunity for those who have always wanted to see how the tablets feel in your own hands.



Iola will be bringing Intuos tablets, a Cintiq 12, Cintiq 21,and a bamboo tablet.
