Entry:
IndyFlex is having an October 27th Meeting @ 6pm @ ITT Tech. The topics for discussion are listed below:
1. Review Notes from BFlex – We will share code samples, tips, tricks, and any notes we might have taken based on the various courses we took. This will basically be like microwave BFlex left-overs!
2. Flex 4 Certification – We will discuss topics from the new certification test and begin creating a plan to study areas where we need to focus the most attention. We will also set a goal date for the group to take the certification test. Time permitting we may also begin working on these areas of study as well. The goal is to have a clear path & timeline to get certified in Flex 4.
Our meeting location is once again on the second floor of ITT Tech Institute on the north side of Indianapolis, at 9511 Angola Court, Indianapolis 46268. (View a map) Theory#3.

BFusion/BFlex 2010

Title: BFusion/BFlex 2010
Entry: BFusion/BFlex is no normal conference. It is a no-nonsense, learn-to-code* and learn-it-from-the-best event. Each day there are six full hours of hands-on training with the various technologies and techniques. You bring your computer and desire to learn and our excellent instructors challenge you to take your mind to new places. On both days there are full-day tracks as well as individual sessions. Whether you are an experienced developer or don't know a variable from a loop there is something to meet each skill level*. The full-day tracks run the same schedule as the other sessions, but you stick with one instructor, dig deep, learn a lot and leave with a sense of accomplishment. There is also a full menu of individual 90-minute offerings at the intermediate and advanced levels to challenge even the most experienced attendee.
*This isn't all just right-brain code-monkey fare. At BFlex on Sunday there is a full-day track on Flash Catalyst. This amazing application lets the masters of the mysteries (to me, at least) of Illustrator, Photoshop and Fireworks take their creations right into the world of Rich Internet Applications.

October 14th - Indy Flex UG meeting - your help is requested! 1

Title: October 14th - Indy Flex UG meeting - your help is requested!
Entry: Greetings!
Because I am new to Indianapolis, I need your help. I would like to hold a Flex Users Group meeting on Oct. 14th somewhere central to most people in Indianapolis. Naturally, the downtown area seems like a logical choice but I'm open to your ideas.
We need to establish a regular meeting place for monthly meetings. It's possible to use different locations from month to month but in my experience as a user group manager, it's easier for most people if they don't have to learn a new set of directions and with finding parking every month. I would like to find a place that we could stick with. To that end, I am asking you if you can suggest to me a meeting place that at a minimum offers a large screen display to which we could connect a laptop computer to be used for presentation purposes, and seating for attendees. Ideally such a place would be free. Do you have resources available to you that might work? Or do you know of places that have been used in the past? I am very good at making the arrangements once I have some locations in mind.
Our second need for the Oct. 14th meeting is to find someone from our community who might be interested in giving some kind of presentation on Flash Catalyst, which is one of the new design and development tools for the latest beta version of Flex--now known as Flash Builder 4. This is one of the more exciting parts of the new Flex products from Adobe, and I personally have not become familiar with it yet. But if you have had any experience using it and would like to spend a half hour or so explaining what you have learned, I believe that anyone familiar with Flex would be very interested. If more than one person steps forward, then I'm sure we could work out a presentation with more than one speaker. Having more than one perspective is always a good thing.
At this meeting, as at every Indy Flex UG meeting, I would like to provide people who are interested in Flex software development to network with each other and share in job opportunities as well as technical expertise. I myself am truly a junior Flex developer but I am determined to become a better Flex developer and really gain a better working knowledge of this wonderful tool. I have much experience as a user group manager and, with your help, can lead a successful Flex users group here in Indianapolis.
FYI, I can always be reached offline at mick.cle@gmail.com and would welcome your input on most anything. Right now I need to focus on coming up with an Oct. 14th meeting place and someone who might like to speak on Flash Catalyst. I feel that this would be a topic of interest to Flex developers of any level of expertise. I will also put my phone number below in case you would like to call me. This is an exciting era in RIA technology! I'm looking forward to meeting you.
Best Regards,
Mick Keily

Title: Indy Flex UG meeting 11/18/09
Entry: Hi Everyone,
It took over a month to get things rolling but we now have a meeting place and some great guest speakers for the Flex Indy Users Group to be held on Wednesday, Nov. 18th, at 6pm. We'll also have a major drawing for free software!
For our first meeting in a long time, we are excited to have Joe Johnston and Peter Buick from Universal Mind making an appearance in Indianapolis. Joe writes:
"We'll take a look at how you can use the latest tools and techniques from Adobe that can be used in the UX process. From wireframing with Fireworks to building prototypes with Flex 3. As well as looking at modern techniques with Degrafa and Flex skinning. We'll also walk through Adobe's newest tool Flash Catalyst to see where it might fit into the process."
Thanks to Sam Souhrada and Quinn Osburn at touchASoul design studio, we will be meeting at their offices at 6500 East Westfield Blvd in Indianapolis. Click to view a Map
At the meeting, we will hold a drawing for a free software prize from Adobe--any Adobe software up to $2100 in value (excluding any Master Collections). We only get to do this twice a year, so this is it!
After the meeting, you are invited to talk more casually with our guest speakers at the Broad Ripple Brewpub, right across the street from the meeting place.
Bring your business cards, let's all get acquainted!
