AUGUST 21: GMUNK, MAXON COMPUTER, ALIOSCOPY

Pia Maffei, chief operating officer at Alioscopy USA, has been instrumental in defining key global strategies such as ‘Alioscopy Ready’, a protocol where 3^rd party developers support the Alioscopy proprietary 3D technology.  Maffei also developed and managed strategic partnerships with companies including: Autodesk, Maxon, Turbosquid, Adobe, and Intel. Drawing on her expert understanding of content creation and production workflows, Maffei developed and introduced new AS-3D programs like the Alioscopy Preferred Content Creator community, the first on-line marketplace for auto-stereoscopic content, and the Alioscopy User Generated Content (UGC) platform, licensed from Applied IDEAS, Inc., a company she co-founded in 1996.  All efforts resulted in increased sales and maintained Alioscopy’s leadership status. You will learn about one of the newest 3D tools in Photoshop CS6 Extended that Alioscopy has recently launched.  Alioscopy, a worldwide technology leader in the field of 3D displays, now offers a trigger, that once downloaded in Photoshop CS6 Extended, will allow all Photoshop users to convert stereo images into 3D and to turn CG models into content viewable on Alioscopy glasses-free 3D displays.  Additionally, you will be exposed to the multi-view content creation tools and various workflow methods from Photoshop, Cinema 4D, 3DS Max, Maya and Softimage.

Every year during April, the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) holds a convention in Las Vegas.

There are presentations from the best and brightest in the industry, tech talks, new products announced, and meetups with pros of every industry.  I expect this year will be just as (if not more) exciting than years past.  I highly recommend that you plan to attend one of the days.

Adobe has brought Photoshop Touch to Apple's iPad2.  It's not 'Photoshop', it's 'Photoshop Touch'. On the go, you can start to create while you're away from your desk, then export it back to your desktop version of Photoshop to finish it up.  This month, 10 minutes? 5 great features of Photoshop Touch.

2011 is out 2012 is IN!

WHAT'S UP DMALA PEOPLE!!  :)

Hope eveyone had a good end of year 2011.  We're ready to kick off the new year with more meetings. FACE TO FACE.  Many of you have said that this is a great way to make contacts, find jobs, and just get in touch.  Well, guess what. Let's do it again in January!

JANUARY 17.  The Third Tuesday of the month.

REZLAB is a new breed of creative studio that focuses on creating memorable stories, short films, and unique VFX work with a mission to make exciting feature films.

CREATIVE DIRECTOR CARLOS FLOREZ will be talking about the challenges of creating a SHORT FILM.

The presentation will include the importance of a strong and diverse creative team and streamlined collaboration. Examples of recent short films and animations will be discussed, including the title "Peeping Toms", "NASA", and a new film which is stil in post production, "SuperWannabe Heroes".  REZLAB has been a member of DMALA, and has recently recruited members from the Facebook Group page.

Using Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, After Effects and MAXON Cinema 4D, Carlos has been able to visualize his work for many companies, and produce his own short films as well.  By being familiar with the tools, Carlos has been able to push the limits of budgets during scripting, storyboards and shooting schedules. 

WARREN'S TRICKS AND TIPS PRESENTATION:

Photoshop, Illustrator, After Effects, Premiere Pro.  You may use one of these, some of these, or all of these, but chances are that there's always some crafty little creative trick that you haven't learned yet.  (If you want to share one at an upcoming meeting, let me know!)

This month, a simple creative tip for your Adobe masterpiece - to finish it or to begin it!

When it comes to creating an animated texture fill, there's probably no better place than After Effects. While many motion designers make use of 3rd party plug-ins to create animated textures, there's no shortage of effects included with After Effects that can be put to good use. Warren will show how to create and experiment with animated texture fills by stacking some of the effects that come with After Effects.
