Speakers: Mason Dixon Agenda: With Adobe & Macromedia's merger, there was a coming together of very different strategies of product marketing. So now, after two CS releases under the new umbrella company, it is an appropriate time to take an evaluation of what was the new "Adobe" is doing and how it will affect you and the software you use. February marks the start of our 15th year of supporting and promoting the multimedia community in the Chicago-area. Since our group’s success has relied on our community we only thought it fitting that we use this meeting to celebrate the great talent fof the fine folks around here. To do that, we are holding a community showcase being done to allow people to share and see what fine working being done by our community. We are currently looking for people who would like to share their work with the group. AUG Chicago is hoping you can join us this Monday, June 21st as we take a look at Flash Catalyst CS5.
Flash Catalyst is a new design tool that aims to accelerate the development of rich user interfaces. Catalyst helps bridge the gap between designer and developer in the creation of Flash/Flex based internet application creation. Catalyst allows deigners to use existing skills and work with the tools they are familiar with to seamlessly convert their design into an interactive Flash programs.
Our guest Presenter, Rich Humphreys, will be giving us first look at Flash Catalyst CS5 and how you can take your Photoshop, Illustrator, and Fireworks artwork and transform it into fully interactive projects, or prototype without writing code which can be easily passed to developers to create robust data-driven Flex Applications. Rich will also adress how to best prepare your design files for optimal conversion in Catalyst.

In addition, Matthew has written several books on Adobe Flash and writes articles for many Web magazines. Currently, he is the new jQuery blogger for O'Reilly's InsideRIA.com. In addition to writing, Matthew is a Technical Editor for iPhone books developed by Pearson and also develops many mobile applications. He is currently half way through writing his latest book on Android App development using Adobe's AIR 2.0 for Android. Agenda: Everybody is talking about it, but few really understand what it entails Join us in September as we take a look at HTML 5. Our guest presenter will be Matthew David author of the new book "HTML5: Designing Rich Internet Applications". Matthew plans to explain exactly what HTML5 is and introduce you to some of the new elements it brings including Video & Audio, CSS3, SVG & CANVAS, APIs (GeoLocation, LocalStorage, DragAndDrop). In the past, she has taught 16 different applications, including Vector: Illustator, Freehand and CorelDRAW!; Raster: Photoshop, PhotoPaint and Painter; Desktop Publishing: QuarkXPress and PageMaker, and Presentation programs: PowerPoint, Persuasion and Harvard Graphics. She is an is an Adobe Certified Expert, Adobe Certified Instructor in both InDesign and Illustrator. She consistenly is involved in many projects that allow her to bring a wealth of real-world knowledge to the classroom. AUG Chicago, The Chicago Area Adobe Users Group; and Chicago Flex have teamed up to deliver two very special events featuring previews of some Adobes most anticipated software releases for the Flash Platform. Thursday June 18th, Adobe Platform Evangelist Kevin Hoyt will be conducting two separate presentations, offering up a bit for everyone revolving around the upcoming release of Flex 4. In the afternoon we will host a presentation geared toward designers and in the evening we will have a presentation that will appeal more to developers. He is currently a Senior Software Engineer for Sears Holdings, working on iOS applications for their many different business units. Code as Art What exactly is coding art? Is it really art? Our guest presenter,Ross Gerbasi talks about how he uses his skills as a programmer to generate art. Ross plans to walk us through the process of building a basic ActionScript 3 example, and dig into a bit of set-up in Flash to show how you can create art totally free. In addition he will share project he is currently collaborating on with some motion graphics artists that integrates Flex with After Effects. Prepare for something a bit different, definitely cool, and guaranteed to spark your imagination. |
