The AV Club: Getting Started with After Effects and Audition 1
Event posted on Jan 11 by amandaJohnson

Title: The AV Club: Getting Started with After Effects and Audition
Date and Time: January 11, 2011 06:30 PM - 09:00 PM (GMT-7 Mountain Time US & Canada)

Address: 2620 Walnut Street Denver, CO 80205
google map
Call-in Details: RSVP for Connect Room Access
Speakers:

Dan Warvi will show you all the shortcuts, keyboard commands, and workflow strategies you would've known if you just had the time to read the After Effects manual. He is an accomplished motion graphics artist, and a highly-requested RMAUG speaker.

Scott Scheridan has had the privilege of studying, performing, and recording with several Grammy Award-winning musicians and producers over the last 15 years. From these experiences Scott has developed a passion for working with digital audio, gaining experience in such programs as Sony Soundforge, Ableton Live, Propellerhead Reason, Adobe Soundbooth, and Adobe Audition.

Agenda:

Have you ever needed to add motion graphics or audio to a project and didn't quite know where to begin? Or, would you like to learn some best practices for using Adobe After Effects and Audition? To start the New Year off right, RMAUG can help you achieve your resolution to broaden your digital media horizons with our January AV Club meeting.

Getting Started with Audition
Recording, mixing, editing, and mastering - Adobe Audition is the all-in-one toolset for professional audio production. But, with all those features, it can be a little overwhelming. In his talk, Scott Sheridan will go over the basics of working with sound using Adobe Audition CS5 by explaining some common use case scenarios, and demonstrating how you might incorporate this powerful digital audio workstation into your workflow.

After Effects Charm School
Are you an After Effects artist that learned how to animate with a deadline hovering over your head? Do you curse every time you set up multiple renders because you have to set up the parameters over and over again? Do you have carpal tunnel syndrome from zooming your mouse back and forth over a comp? Do you know that every time you hit RAM preview, you're going to have enough time to get a cup of coffee down the street and check your Facebook page?

Getting Started with Digital Publications - Lessons and Inspirations, presented by Michael Salamon
Publishers are chomping at the bit to create digital publications, however, they’re doing so without adapting to the medium. Several publications are trying to cram a printed piece into a digital application, without considering usage habits and functionality. Michael will discuss some specific projects he’s completed using the Adobe Digital Publishing Solution, as well as highlighting examples of some projects his students have completed using the solution based on his assignment. Through this experience, Michael will share some of his learnings as well as pros and cons to the solution, with commentary on best practices in creating a dynamic digital publication.

Delving Into Digital Publications (ePUB), presented by Erica Gamet
You've probably heard a lot about ePUB and how easy it is to create an ePUB file from InDesign. While InDesign is the best tool in your toolbox for creating an ePUB file, there's more to it than opening your print file and exporting to ePUB. In this session, we’ll discuss some of the basics of the ePub format and what you need to know to smoothly and easily convert an InDesign file to an ePub file. We’ll discuss best practices and delve a little into how to handle graphics and text in your InDesign file, especially when re-purposing from a print-destined document.

FYI: If you're really interested in Digital Publications, check out MOGO Media InDesign to ePub Seminar – coming to Denver March 10th – in an 8-city tour throughout 2011. This full-day in-depth seminar will look at what processes you need to master in InDesign to create an ePUB file and what tools and skills you'll need to turn that file into a well-crafted final product that's ready to share with the world.

Chuck Freedman, chief channel evangelist from litl, will review all the brands, technologies and opportunities for getting an app on TV. He'll discuss where the Flash platform, as a plug-in, part of other SDKs and through AIR for TV, may have a promising place in this new space. Whether you're interested in porting your app to the bigger screen, or creating a new experience, this will be an informative presentation for you. On TV, apps present new challenges to the developer. Assume nothing is universal and prepare to enter the biggest display space yet!

Future of Flash Panel
Event posted on Dec 19 by amandaJohnson

Title: Future of Flash Panel
Date and Time: December 6, 2011 07:00 PM - 09:00 PM (GMT-7 Mountain Time US & Canada)

  • Kevin Hoyt - Adobe Flash Platform Evangelist
  • Joseph Labrecque - Senior Interactive Software Engineer at Unversity of Denver and Adobe Education Leader
  • Jun Heider - Senior Architect at RealEyes Media and Adobe Community Expert
  • Ryan Bell - UI Developer at Effective UI
  • John Wilker - Founder of 360|Flex and Panel Moderator

Agenda:

Adobe's given the Flash Platform community a lot to think about over the past few weeks and we're still digesting all the announcements ourselves:

There has been a lot of response to these announcements, and it's been difficult to determine what's true, what's hype, and what's just out in left field.

Our panel of Flex and HTML5 professionals will help you chew over these topics and give our take on how Adobe's announcements have or will affect our day-to-day development and business strategies. Our goal is to have an interesting, productive conversation with the community about what these announcements mean and what they mean for the digital landscape. What we're not doing is focusing on how the communication about these announcements could have been better/different. There's a lot to talk about without getting mired in PR nuances.

Meeting Minutes:

Recording of the first 20 minutes of the panel ... unfortunately, we had audio issues past this point.

Did Apple & HTML Kill Flash? Presented by: RJ Owen
These days the web is regularly aflame with an endless host of pundits, bloggers, and twitter-junkies decrying the death of Flash at the hands of Apple and HTML5. In this session we'll look at the state of the web, the history of Flex, and the future of the framework and give five solid reasons why it's still one of the best things a web developer can learn. Whether you're new to Flash and Flex or a seasoned developer this session will bring new ideas to the debate over Flex's relevance and show why it is and will continue to be an important part of the web-enabled application universe. The future isn't dark; as always, it's simply different.

Make Life Easier in JavaScript Presented by: Eric Matthys
The web is becoming increasingly reliant on JavaScript to provide a rich experience outside of the Flash runtime. However, JavaScript tends to carry a negative reputation with Flex developers as a language that becomes a nightmare to develop. The flexibility of the language can easily lead to poorly architected code that is difficult to debug and maintain. This session will explore ways to make JavaScript a better experience when building simple websites as well as complex web applications.
