Green screen 1

David, you had a really good meeting where you showed masking in Lightroom.
I had a young and aspiring photographer who has downloaded the Lightroom trial and wants to know if she can change her greenscreen to something different. What do you think her options are in Lightroom and/or do you think Photoshop would do a better job for her?
I've encouraged her to join our group.
Thank you for your thoughts.

Plug In for noise vs Lightroom adjustments 2
Thread posted on Dec 14
by Beth McNabb
Do you use a plug in for noise that you love in Lightroom or do you prefer to use the Lightroom adjustments? If you prefer Lightroom, is it because it's not for a client or because you think Lightroom does a better job?
I have an older camera and had to shoot at ISO 1600 for a client. I want to remove as much noise as possible and as quickly as possible.
Thank you for your thoughts. I really want to know your opinions.

Collections! Best Practices / Your Workflow?
Thread posted on Nov 23
by ErikValind
While downloading a job I shot this past Monday it dawned on me how much more I have been utilizing collections in LR lately. This is a more recent habit then I would like to admit but I can't imaging not utilizing collections now that I've figured them out a little. Especially with the added clutter of video clips, behind the scenes photos and setup shots on top of the standard .DNG files and subsequent derivative files my old use of folders was quickly becoming unmanageable.
My current workflow is ever evolving but I have started using meta data to tag each job and "Smart Collections" to automatically do my sorting as I import. This at least gives me a clean starting point before jumping into the editing process. My goal going forward is to put together some more detailed Smart Collections to keep me organized all the way through as I rate, edit and create PSDs and TIFFs. The added benefit of these collections is there indifference to where the actual master files lives, as I keep these on a separate external drive.
I am interested to hear what works for you guys if you are using collections and if not, I encourage you to start, and ask your questions here.
Taking large Catalog to several smaller catalogs & archive 2
Thread posted on Nov 11
by Keith@kwstudios.biz
Do you have a suggestion for this goal: I'd like to simplify and comparementalize (sp!?) my photos into collections unique to each individual event that can be culled/simplified to "each stand on their own" and be archived to DVD or external drive.
I currently have a large catalog "All Pictures" - with say 40k photos from numerous events (Wedding 1, Wedding N, Corporate1 to Corporate N, Fashion... Embarassing photos of DavidR, etc..). Each event is in its own folder with multiple subfolders..
What is the most efficient method to group, catagorize and create individual catalogues (while removing them from the big "all photo" catalog)? And I guess the world is such that the majority will not fit on a DVD - are we stuck with using external drives (they scare me as I know have 4 that are dead when checked from storage...!!) or do you save and span multiple DVD's?
Thanks for any ideas :) Keith

Export catalogue or simply move it? 2
Thread posted on Oct 18

I have been on location for a week. I have a catalogue with just under 4000 images on the laptop. I want them on my desktop in my "client catalogue". Would you: Export the catalogue or simply move it from laptop to desktop. The first scenario seems redundant as I will have to move the exported catalogue anyway.

Lightroom Question - tethered shooting 3
Thread posted on Sep 14
by Beth McNabb
During a tethered shoot with a client, Lightroom kept kicking me out of my directory. I was using Lightroom 3 and a Canon 20D. I would shoot a few pictures and then it would make me restart the whole tethered shoot dialogue. It was frustrating for the client and a made me feel like I didn't look like I knew what I was doing. Any ideas? I don't think the camera was going to sleep.

Log In Automatically 3

Sometimes it can be a tad tedious to enter your login details each time you want to come in to the site but there are very good reasons for companies wanting you to log in before accessing any areas where content can be changed or messages posted out.
Some months back when changes were made to the groups.adobe.com site the login area changed to a panel that popped up. Unfortunately this panel does not remember any details and you have to type in your Adobe ID and password each time.
Well the is a way around that. And NO, its not by the use of a program that remembers or assigns passwords, its simply a different area of the Adobe site where you can login to Adobe, and therefore access ANY groups that you belong to.
Bookmark the link below, instead of the Lightroomtampabay.com address and you will be able to have your browser remember your details just like any other site where you enter usernames and passwords. Hopefully this will make it a little less tedious for those of you who have many names and passwords to remember. Of course, if you want to use a password program for all of your internet sites, let me know and I will recommend a great one.
