Hero Components for Flash 10.1 on mobile devices 1
Entry posted on Oct 03 by matt.Pollitt , tagged Mobile,Development,News

Make sure to check out the hero flex components for flash 10.1 on devices.

we have run a couple of tests in the studio, and the performance on the nexus one is very encouraging! Check out the attached video to see it in action. (thanks to Manesh for the video!)

You can read more on Hero for mobile devices by downloading the whitepaper, and keep an eye on the Hero SDK site for the latest news and releases!

What mobile development features will be added to the Flex framework in “Hero”?
“Hero” will include new capabilities specifically designed for mobile development, such as a new construct for managing “screens” of an application, and the ability to scale applications automatically on devices with varying pixel densities. New skins and functionality designed for mobile form factors and input methods (e.g. touch-based scrolling) will be added to a number of existing Flex components, and new components will be added to support mobile-specific UI patterns. Finally, the Flex mobile features will encapsulate design principles and guidelines that make it easy to create applications that work well across a range of native platforms.

What features of the core Flex framework will be available for use on mobile devices?
A major advantage of the unified framework approach is that it will enable developers to leverage much of the power of the existing Flex framework in mobile applications, including key features such as dynamic layout, view states, data access, and Spark UI components. Certain Flex features that are not optimized for mobile use (such as the original “MX” component set) will not be recommended for mobile applications.

Building a List component in Flash Lite - new ADC article
Entry posted on May 18 by matt.Pollitt

Darren Osadchuk has written a great new article which as been featured on the Adobe Develeper network site :

In this tutorial I'll describe how to build a simple but useful List component for Flash Lite applications. You may be familiar with the ActionScript 2.0 List component that ships with Adobe Flash CS4 Professional. Due to the memory and processor constraints of the mobile environment, that component isn't practical for use in Flash Lite applications. This article includes the sample files for the completed custom List component. The sample project can be extended and updated to tailor any part of it to fit the needs of your Flash Lite mobile application.
