Newb questions AMS5 streaming 1
Thread posted on Dec 20 by No Nickname

Brand new ams5 user so be patient.....

I recently got a new Tricaster and have been streaming to a windows media services server. I set up the new tricaster to test it going to the windows box. Streams and plays fine.

I setup a new windows server with Adobe media server 5 and streamed from the tricaster to the AMS 5 no problems with the stream. If I'm on the tricaster or on the AMS5 server I can put in the server name
rtmp://172.16.151.54/livepkgr/livestream?adbe-live-event=liveevent
and the StreamID
live
and can watch the live stream coming off the AMS5 box no problems.
but....Here's the newb question.....What should the URL for a client be so they can watch?
Been going through the manual trying to figure it out...My head hurts now....Help?

Been trying variations of the first two here but I'm not sure what the
instname, eventname, streamname should really be? streamname I believe is "live" yes?

Adobe HDS Single stream
http:///hds-live/livepkgr///.f4m

Apple HLS Single stream
http:///hls-live/livepkgr///.m3u8

Adobe HDS Adaptive bitrate
The media player requests a set-level manifest file:
http:///.f4m

The set-level manifest file contains URLs for each live stream in the following format:

http:///hds-live/livepkgr///.f4m

Apple HLS Adaptive bitrate
The media player requests a set-level variant playlist file:
http:///.m3u8

The set-level variant playlist contains URLs for each live stream in the following format:

http:///hls-live/livepkgr///.m3u8

Configuring FMS 4.5.1 log path on linux 1
Thread posted on Jun 13 by jbochi

FMS appears to be duplicating all logs. Besides logging to files inside the 'logs' directory such as access.log, core.log, admin.log, etc., it looks like all logs are also being saved on /var/log/messages.

Is it possible to turn this off?

The /var/log/messages file is growing at a rate of 5.5GB/day and the huge majority of the lines are something like this (more than 12,000 per minute):

Jun 13 10:54:18 hostname Stream[27994]: Info from libf4f.so: [Fragmenter] [tutorial] Pushed another sample#012.

I realize this log is sent by the HLS lib and that I can set a different log level, but since it's already on 'INFO', I'd rather not change it.

TTL for FMS multicast datagrams
Thread posted on May 23 by jegrossman

Does anyone know where the TTL for multicast datagrams is set? We are experiencing a situation where multicast doesn't seem to work after traversing 5 switches on the LAN  even though all are enabled for multicast. Network guys are wondering if TTL is the culprit.

Configuring FMS 4.5 for HTTP live stream ! 2
Thread posted on Apr 27 by Sv Bell

Hi folks!

I'm trying to setup Flash Media Server (Streaming server) and I'm having issues with outputting HTTP stream.

The system works very well with the Flash ooutput, but for some reason the livepkgr won't work. Tried several things over the past two weeks, I've went thru docs and I don't know anymopre what else I can try... The source of the video feed is upstreamed from my own home computer, via Flash Live Encoder.

I operate a dedicated server, running Windows 2008 Server. The default web site is IIS. I configured the ports so that port 80 is the default IIS inetpub/webroot, and the FMS 4.5 install is accessed via port 8134. So the IP http://184.107.48.113 opens the default Windows IIS, andhttp://184.107.48.113:8134 takes the request to the FMS install.

The video stream is live on the Flash server, I can see it in the console, the livepkgr appears to be working, and I do see the .STREAM file being generated in the _definst_/livebroadcast/livestream folder. So the server works, and process the HTTP output.

I believe the URL I should use to access the output HLS stream is: http://184.107.48.113:8134/livepkgr/_definst_/livebroadcast/livestream .f4m.m3u8

but it returns a file not found message. Is there something wrong with the URL syntax? Or there is something else in the .conf files I must tweak? Or is it an issue with Apache 2.2 configuration?

You can see the live Flash stream from my web site http://www.blackflag.tv I want to change this Flash stream to HTTP stream.

Thanks for your help folks!!!

Looking for an automated transcoding solution 3
Thread posted on Mar 13 by fmeenz

Hello,

I have a windows server running FMS3.5.  The website that uses the FMS installation has a user area, where users upload their own audio files.

Currently, I have to ask users to upload at a specific (high) bitrate, and then I have to manually go in after the fact and transcode the files down to 128kbps, which is what I use to stream the media.

It's not a great deal of work, however it's just one more step that takes time -- It would be great to be able to have the files transcoded upon completion of upload, and I was wondering if anyone currently has a solution for this.

Any info would be great.

Thanks!
