Speakers:

Mike Chambers has spent the last decade building applications that target the web and the Flash runtime. During that time, he has worked with numerous technologies including Flash, Generator, .NET, Central, Flex, Objective-C, Cocoa, JavaScript and HTML5. He is currently the Directory of Developer Advocacy for web platforms at Adobe. He has written and spoken extensively on Flash and Rich Internet Application development and is coauthor of the Apollo for Adobe Flex Developers Pocket Guide,Adobe Integrated Runtime (AIR) for JavaScript Developers Pocketguide, Flash Enabled: Flash Design and Development for Devices as well as Generator and Flash Demystified.

Lee Brimelow is a developer evangelist at Adobe who is currently focusing on Flash gaming. He has worked in the past for companies like AOL, Netscape, frog design, and eBay. Lee runs the highly popular video tutorial site at gotoandlearn.com and writes a blog dedicated to Flash at theflashblog.com.

Join us for an evening with Mike Chambers & Lee Brimlow from Adobe. This will be a good opportunity to speak directly with Adobe, ask questions, and discuss recent changes around the Flash Player.


The Future of Flash – Mike Chambers
In this session, Mike will lead a discussion around recent changes and announcements around the Flash Platform. He will then spend some time laying out the roadmap for the Flash Player, and discuss the direction in which the player will evolve, including the general focus of the player and the ActionScript language and AVM (ActionScript Virtual Machine). In addition to discussing the Flash roadmap, we will be showing off the latest Flash and Adobe AIR content, give some sneak peeks on upcoming releases, and setting aside plenty of time for open discussions and Q&A.


Adobe Gaming Technology – Lee Brimlow
In this session Gaming Evangelist Lee Brimelow will reveal the latest technologies being worked on by Adobe for game developers. They will show how these technologies allow developers to create casual 2D games in addition to AAA 3D games. Current best practices will also be discussed.

She oversees all phases of creative development; planning and executing projects to generate creative solutions for clients and customers that are visually appealing, motivating with meaningful user experiences. Prior to Metia, Cassandra worked at Microsoft as a Senior UX Designer on both Xbox and Windows Phone, developing extensive game experiences and playful mobile experiences. With over 15 years creating UX/UI design for video games, web, and mobile, Cassandra is a geek, passionate about design, games and creating simple delightful designs. She continuously works with teams in bringing synergy between development and design to help bridge better hand-offs, efficiencies and ultimately create great user experiences and innovative ideas. Cole Peterson is a Technical Director at Zaaz.com working on projects for companies such as Converse, Tazo, The Morgans Hotel Group, Tom’s of Maine, BECU, Pella Windows, and Microsoft.


He is responsible for architecting, designing and developing frameworks for Flash, Silverlight, JavaScript and iOS applications as well as scoping work, maintaining code libraries, hiring and managing other developers.

Prior to joining the team at Zaaz, Cole worked at Neptune where he was responsible for software design and directing the Neptune team of developers. He holds a degree in communications from the Seattle University.

This month Jack Nicolai will be discussing creating animation through ActionScript. Jack has been a Flash developer since 2000. Hw was also a Macromedia Certified Instructor for many years.

Jason Fruchter
Lead Director of Animation and Illustration

Jason is a partner at A and J Studios. He is currently creating character animation and other game assets for Smashing Ideas.  He began using Flash at its inception in 1996. While working at NickJr.com he developed game assets including character animation, props, and backgrounds. At Animagic he was Flash Animation Supervisor for the “Speed Racer” pilot. At Nickelodeon Creative Resources he provided animation for Dora the Explorer, Go Diego Go, Backyardigans, Ni hao, Kai-lan, Blues Clues, Fairly Odd Parents, and Jimmy Neutron. In addition to his animation work he also illustrates children’s books for several Nickelodeon properties including Dora the Explorer, Go Diego Go, The Backyardigans, Ni hao, Kai-lan, and Team Umizoomi.

He holds a BFA Illustration from the Rhode Island School of Designv


Agenda:

Spend an evening with the talented Jason Fruchter. He will be talking about Creating Character Animation in Flash. He will demonstrate a variety of Flash related techniques including: using symbols to create Flash style “puppet” animation, creating key frames to plan out the action sequence, making the character talk using “lip sync”, and how to create emotions using facial expressions. In addition, traditional “hand drawn” animation techniques will be demonstrated which do not use automatically generated “tweens” in Flash, just the mind of an animator! Several examples of character animation will be shown. They represent projects geared toward entertainment, education, and gaming.

Max's bio: Max Nachlinger is a developer with experience in C#, Actionscript (and Flex), various Databases, and a few other silly languages and platforms. Passionate about clean and testable code, Max also loves the process of teaching and learning that's germinated working alongside smart folks. Max currently works at Mindflash Technologies, where he has so much fun that they really ought not to pay him at all. In his spare time he works on a small blog (http://flexamusements...) and stomps and hollers while playing a steel resonator guitar.
