Captivate to iPad/iPhone
Just successfully transferred my first captivate course to my iPad. The process is a bit fiddly which hopefully Adobe will address in future updates but it looks good and the quiz works. Will post the steps soon.
Captivate 5 to iPad and iPhone
The other day I mentioned I successfully got my captivate project onto my iPad and iPhone, now I must give a BIG Thankyou to easelsolutions for posting the steps to make this possible. So for everyone who has been asking me please go to this link http://blog.easelsolutions.com/2011/05/publish-captivate-5-to-the-iphoneipad/ and follow the steps and you too will have your captivate on your mobile devices. Now tips and tricks: 1. Create a folder called Aps and then create a subfolder with the project name. 2. Publish your captivate mobile project to this folder. 3. Download your mobile provisioning file to this folder also. 4. Copy and paste the easelsolutions command into a notepad file, and make all relevant changes here and save it also into the project folder, that way in future if you have to make changes to the ap you do not have to redo the coding steps just copy and paste from the notepad file. 5. Keep the naming convention the same for all projects that way you can just copy the notepad file and do a replace with the project name, saves time adjusting coding. 6. A another big tip I realised is also make sure the project you are converting is mobile ready ie instead of saying click here, you will need to use touch or something to that effect, and also make sure you are using bigger text etc especially for the iPhone. Once again I give my thanks to easel solutions for sharing, hopefully Adobe will make this process easier in future versions but for now this works. Let me know how you go. Jo
Captivate 6 now available Captivate 6 has arrived!!!!! I am so excited to now share with you captivate 6 with all its new really cool features. The best way for you to get to know this wonderful tool is to visit the captivate blog http://blogs.adobe.com/captivate/adobe-captivate-tutorials and see the really cool tutorials on the new features. Having played with 6 I can tell you I will be pushing all my clients to upgrade as soon as possible as I personally do not want to be creating in older versions of csaptivate as this new version will not only save me so much time using the themes, but as I have said before many times, if you have to create compliance courses this version now allows for pretesting, making our life so much easier to teach people what they don't know, instead of boring them with what they do. Although I do not think anything we create in 6 could be boring with all the new actors and interactions now available. Also you must check out the new HD video recording now available with the ability to edit with transitions right in captivate. I am so excited and I could keep going on and on, but I ask that you at least download the trial version and have a play because as soon as you did, you will like me not want to use any other tool. Let me know your thoughts of this version and let me know what you do or even don't like of the new version. I am thinking of putting together a launch presentation in Sydney and will keep you posted on this. Cheers Jo

Presenter 8
Have you been lucky enough to see the power of Presenter 8? I am currently at the LearnX conference in Melbourne and have been lucky enough to watch Dr Allen Partridge showcase the new features now available and have been blown away by the ease of use of the video capture in Presenter. This would be a great feature to give your SME's (subject matter experts) and get them to create the demonstration videos for your learning. The biggest theme of LearnX this year has been that we need to adopt and embrace social learning, having said that I have also realised that there is much confusion and misunderstanding in the term social learning, so would like to ask you what this term means to you? Looking forward to reading your definitions. If you are in Melbourne pop in today and say hello to Dr Allen Partridge and mysef on the Adobe stand. Take care, and talk soon Jo

Tips and Tricks Don't be afraid to make a typing mistake whilst recording a software simulation. How often have been recording a software simulation and whilst recording you make a typing error and then stop the recording to start again to ensure the mistake isn't recorded? Well you need not have worried, as captivate gives you the ability to edit your typing text and replace it with a text animation where you can fix any spelling mistakes or change the text completely. Especially a great feature when you have to login to an application using your log in, you can come back and change it so your audience does not see your login details. All you need to do is go to the timeline and find your typing text. Right click your mouse and select Replace with Text Animation, and just like that you can now edit your text.

Adobe Weekly Seminars in an Aussie Friendly Time (almost) Well after some discussions with Vish and Pooja from the Adobe learning team I proposed that i host a series at an Australian Friendly time, this was going to be 2PM AEDT, but numbers were low so this was moved to 9PM AEDT. BUT, this is still better than 2AM in the morning! This new time means it also suits the EU market place as well... So, what is coming up - the first two have already been announced:
The third will be announced later, this one will be in April... The sessions are aimed at those coming into Captivate, or who want to learn some best practices when getting started on a project... Hopefully all goes well and i will see some members of the group there!
