This place was worth the finding! I'm sorry no one from SSAUG was able to go. Besides the dairy there is a preserve all worth some time spent with the camera. Maybe we can organize a field trip of our own, say in the spring? ~Paula

I love this. You should volunteer to do a presentation at one of our meetings on the techniques you used in making thes and other photos: not just post them for us to enjoy! Yes, I think you gave enough instruction (and thanks for that) but everyone doesn't come to the groups site. Anyway I'm quite sure everyone would enjoy it if you did a presentation. Cheers, Paula

  Agenda:  On the first day we’ll meet mid-afternoon to review the workshop schedule and photograph in evening light. During the coming days we’ll carpool to Alan’s favorite photo locations, found over the past 37 years. Subjects include panoramic vistas, pastoral scenes, small towns, tree lines, rolling hills, patterns galore, fence lines, barns, churches, graveyards, windmills, tractors, grain silos, and the colors of fall. The colorful trees, bushes and hills are sometimes accompanied by frost, light snow or fog this time of year. The gentle Palouse textures and patterns lend themselves to highly expressive images in the magic of low morning and evening light. Individual instruction and assistance in the field will emphasize the elements of visual design, and how they are used to create the essence of an expressive image. From macro to wide angle to telephoto lenses, an artist’s rendition of the Palouse is well within reach. The workshop is open to those with a working knowledge of their equipment and a basic understanding of photography. All 35mm or larger formats (film or digital) are welcome. A tripod is a must. Prints, slides or digital on a laptop will be shared and discussed in a group-study session. After lots of great photography the workshop sadly comes to a close at sunset on Tues.

 

  Accommodations and Meals:  Reduced room rates have been arranged at the Super 8 Motel in Moscow, Idaho (8 miles from Pullman, WA). The rates are $56-$60 (1-2 people, queen bed) or $66 (1-2 people, two double+ beds), which includes tax & a free continental breakfast. When making reservations be sure to mention that your room is a ‘blocked’ room in the Alan Caddey Photo Workshop Group. The 24hr motel office number is 208-883-1503. You are welcome to arrive early or stay beyond the workshop dates for the same room rates. Please note that pets are not allowed in the rooms. To cover the entire workshop you will need the room for 4 nights, starting Oct. 24. Morning & daytime meals will vary from small town eateries to picnic lunches. Participants often share ice chest space when carpooling during the day. Grocery stores with various supplies, deli products, and snacks are located nearby. Dinners will be at various local restaurants.

 

  Registration:  The workshop fee is $460. A deposit of $200 will hold a position through Oct. 3, at which time full payment is due. Registration is complete upon receipt of a signed liability form, and full payment. More information will be sent upon registration. If cancellation is made before Oct. 3 all payments, less one half of the deposit (may be applied towards a future workshop) will be refunded. After Oct. 3, a refund will be issued only when a replacement person can be found. Full payment is refunded if the workshop is filled or cancelled by Alan. Participants are responsible for their own insurance, transportation, lodging and food.

About the Palouse and Alan:

 

     The Palouse refers to a unique geographical area stretching approximately 4000 square miles across the heartland of the inland Pacific Northwest. This mystical expanse, located in Eastern Washington and extending into Northern Idaho, is a common destination for artists, writers, photographers, and many others. The region, once open prairie, is now one of the nation’s premier dry-land farming districts, with steeply rolling hills encompassing most of the landscape. The area is well known for it’s natural beauty, for the various grains that it produces, and is home to three universities, the University of Idaho, Eastern Washington University, and Washington State University.

 

     Alan has been photographing the Palouse for 37 years, during all four seasons. He has been taking photographic groups to the Palouse for nearly 30 years. Alan is known as, ‘Mr. Palouse’, to the photographic community in the Pacific Northwest for his award-winning imagery, and many years of exploring the back roads of the Palouse. His Palouse images are in fine art collections, galleries, on note cards, brochures, posters, in Palouse directories and have been in numerous publications - including Northwest Travel, and Nature’s Best magazines, BrownTrout calendars and postcard books, Audubon and Tacoma Photographic Society calendars, in the highly awarded and prestigious Inner Reflections engagement calendar (printed in several languages around the world), and in the photographic book, ‘American Vision’, published by Amphoto.

 

     Alan has won numerous top awards with images from the Palouse - including Gold and Silver Medals in international competition, and local purchase awards. He’s been awarded a free ‘Life Membership’ in two northwest Photographic Societies (their highest honors), for his photographic expertise and organizational skills. Alan is also a recipient of the prestigious Northwest Council of Camera Clubs (NWCCC) ‘Progress Award’, presented for his contributions to local camera clubs, new photographers and the community, photographic ability, teaching skills, workshops and programs. Alan is also a member of the international organizations Photographic Society of America (PSA), and the North American Nature Photography Association (NANPA).

 

     Alan judges local and international photography competitions, teaches beginning - advanced photography privately, at clubs, & previously through the Cascades Academy of Photography, reviews private portfolios, presents programs, sells fine art prints, and leads photo workshops. His highly acclaimed program, ‘Palouse Impressions’, has been shown to numerous organizations from Canada (Abbotsford) to California, twice as the opening feature-program of photographic conventions. The program is set to music & depicts all four seasons of the Palouse. It has also been shown at the annual international NANPA convention.

I loved this site! i even sent it on to my pal, Conn, who teaches Adobe classes through  Sthe ESD in Renton as an idea for Boot Camp and Day Camp classes in the future if we can't get out on a photo shoot on account of rain. He also loved it and because Day Camp was during those too hot days we had this year, he used some of them as projects for the students!
