Jim_Babbage's Profile

Name Jim Babbage
About Me My professional career began in commercial photography. I worked in various photo studios from 1984 until about 2002. Photography is - and has always been - something I enjoy on a personal level as well as a professional one. My self-education in digital imaging began with Photoshop 2.5 in the early 1990's. My involvement with web began in the mid-nineties.Born and raised in Toronto, I teach imaging, web design and photography at Centennial College's Centre for Communication, Media and Design.Teaching and photography are two things I have always loved doing and I have been fortunate to be at the college since the early 1990's teaching in a part-time capacity. I also teach at Humber College in the Digital Imaging Training Centre. I'm a partner in communications company, Newmedia Services, specializing in the things that I teach. I owe part of my creative growth and interest in new endeavors to a dear friend. Her encouragement and support and faith in what I could do have been an added strength to me, even when I was unsure. I thank her for keeping me "young" among other things.CREDITSI'm an author and  regular contributing partner to Community MX, where I've written enough articles and tutorials for Fireworks, Dreamweaver, Photoshop and other general web topics to fill a book or two. I've also written some photo-related pieces.ARTICLESCommunity MXAdobe.comBooksAdobe Fireworks CS4 How-to'sAdobe Fireworks CS4 Classroom in a BookAdobe FIreworks CS5 Classroom in a BookVideo TrainingLynda.comFireworks CS4 Essential TrainingFireworks CS4 Getting StartedRapid Prototyping with Fireworks CS5Fireworks CS5 Essential TrainingFireworks CS5 Getting StartedRapid Prototyping with Fireworks CS5SPEAKING ENGAGEMENTSI have been a guest speaker at TODCON for the past several years and a presenter at Adobe MAX in 2007, 2008 and 2009.

Interests Photography has been a passion of mine since college and still plays a big part in my life. Check me out on flickrI am completely hooked on podcast novels; they're the contemporary answer to serialized radio dramas I listened to as a kid. Authors like Scott Sigler, J.C. Hutchins Seth Harwood and fellow Canadian James Melzer have even broken into traditional print publishing thanks to thier podcasting and marketing.
