For more than a decade I've been an officer in a local Mac user group, NorthWest Apple Pickers, and helped organize the Greater Puget Sound Macromedia which has become the South Sound Adobe User Group (SSAUG.) In addition to leading the new users special interest group at the MUG and helping set up our monthly SSAUG meeting I am also belong to a local writers group (the only non-fiction writer in the group: my writing is primarily monthly essays and articles written for the MUG newsletter.) My business experience include years at Boeing, Rainier Bank, plus various and sundry other jobs including selling Special Interest Automobiles for a while. I'm a car nut. I love to draw and sketch. I enjoy digital photography and all the challenges it offers --both before you snap the picture and after you download it to tweak it. My first major purchase after the Mac OS 7 Performa back in the 1990's was a CalComp Tablet so I could learn how to use the power of the computer for graphics. I've graduated to a Mac Mini (10.5) with Wacom these days and have been concentrating on learning InDesign for the past year. Although I am "retired" I am busier than ever these days.

I am curious to understand how things work, how to use tools to create the effect I want, and to become more efficient and expert as I progress. The best tool/application is one that gets out of my way so I can concentrate on creating. The computer is probably the most creative tool in modern history and I am thrilled every time I discover a new way to put it to use in creating...or frustrated when I discover I cannot get there from here with the limited skills/applications I have at hand.

Writing is a satisfying outlet, even though I have yet to explore the field of fiction. Graphics also provide me great enjoyment; I've had a sketch pad close by since I was a lad in the days of the dinosaurs. As a manager my major task was developing my staff and in recent years that task evolved into instructing new computer users; this teaching experience is perhaps the most rewarding and motivating of my life.
