Hi my name is Rob and i've been using AE for well over 10 years now in Post Production, Television and Ad Agency work. I've been in the industry since 1996.
Welcome Robert! I'd love to see some of your work - and I'm sure other AniMotion members would as well. Feel free to post some stills, or links to some of your work.
Well I'll insert a standard disclaimer as this is a really brief :60 reel of what I've done. It's on my website and is a tad out of date. Forgive the website, it was something I quickly threw together as a container for my reel. I'm working on a newer one in the meantime :)
A small bit of backstory on it, I was looking through reels that folks were submitting for a freelance position at my older company and I was complaining about all the 5+ minute reels I was getting. My producer friend challenged me to make a :60 reel and make it work for my freelance reel and it most certainly has. My last major freelance job landed me a job offer where I am employed today. :)
Nice reel Rob! The idea of making a :60 reel is great. It's true - most people have 05:00+ reels - but if you can capture someone's attention the first :60, they will ask for more. You can always have an 'extended' version available as well.
Is there a fair amount of motion graphics work going on in the Portland area?
The motion picture industry in NM is booming - but we are still working on bringing more motion graphics, and post-production work to the city.
Thanks, the only thing I really wish I had more time/energy to do is my own projects. I tend to run myself ragged at work not really leaving enough energy at home to persue my own things. I think the thing that was frustrating me on the long reels were that I was getting quite a few where the applicant thought it would be cool to repeat the same clip multiple times just to fill out the song. I've long been a proponant of 2-3 minute reels.
Portland is a growing market really, the economy slowed things down a bit but we seem to always find something to do :). I would love to visit NM sometime in the future, I hope to be able to swing through for that Motion conference you guys have there.

Now about that 20% discount ;). I've got to upgrade one of these days I suppose.
