      Adobe CS4
      Content:

Hey just wanted to start a thread to see who has taken the plunge into Adobe's new CS4 offering. What do you think? Any troubles? Is it a worthwhile upgrade from CS3?

    • I have not had a chance to use it yet. The people over at indesignsecrets.com seem to be pretty pleased with ID CS4, a good source of info if you have not been there. I know they have added a lot of interactive features and flash export to it.

Illustrator's new Artboard feature looks like it could be worth the upgrade.

Dreamweaver and Flash look like they have compelling new features that would be worth the upgrade.

Photoshop is reported to be a lot faster, CS4 takes advantage of your GPU to accelerate certain tasks. This alone could be worth the upgrade.

I have not heard of any reason not to upgrade, I would say if you are not held back by your clients then install it on one computer and test it out on a project to see how it works. We used to always hold back on mission critical upgrades like InDesign, but Photoshop us usually a safe upgrade. I would suggest testing illustrator's new features, I remember problems with a number of previous upgrades in the way RIPs handled gradients and some other "new" features.

    • I haven't had a chance to play with the trials yet, but I might try to soon at home. From a video perspective, there are definitely a few new features I'm personally excited about:

      Premiere Pro

      • Batch rendering (HUGE timesaver)
      • Ability to import Final Cut Pro projects
      • Searchable speech recognition

      After Effects

      • Quicksearch
      • Ability to import 3D layers from Photoshop

      Soundbooth

      • Multi-track editing
      • Non-destructive file format (this one will be a lifesaver!)

Anybody know of other cool new CS4 production features?

    • Not until I can get it on work and home computers.

    • Update: I got to see some of the new features in InDesign CS4 last week and it looks like they've improved a bunch of stuff and they've paid attention to some of the finer details that you really notice if you use it a lot.

Also, we'll be giving away a free copy of CS4 to some lucky User Group member between now and June, so keep an eye out for that!

    • I watched CS4 videos and ı must get it on work. ı'm sure ı'll work my graphic design enjoyable and practical.

    • We have just upgraded at DATV to CS4. I was using PageMaker 6.5 and am now using InDesign CS4. So far importing old documents from PM6.5 seems to work well. I like that the interface is more like Photoshop. However, I would like to see the text function a little more straight forward. It takes a while to get use to the box around the text. And the way to change the font color could be a little more streamlined. I think the font colors and outline should work the same way as in Photoshop. Although once I use it a little more I may be more comfortable with it.

I have also upgraded from Dreamweaver MX 2004 to Dreamweaver CS4. I like the way they have made the CSS easier to work with. But so far I am using it for a pretty simple site. You can see it here www.datv.org
