      bup to swf/flv conversion
      Content:

Hi - I have cs4 (designer edition) and was wondering what tool would I be able to work w/ video?  I have .bup files (and .ifo and .vbo files) Sorry - just a beginner!  Just not sure what tool to use?  Do I need to get another post editing tool?  Thanks a million!

    • I'm by no means an expert in video but I've done a little in Flash professional and Premier.  The file extensions, .bup, .ifo, and .vob that you are seeing I'm guessing come from a DVD that you want to capture video from.  I don't know much about these formats other than I googled it and found the following link to be helpful.  Here it is.

There is a VOB to AVI conversion tool that I used once to capture a video from a DVD and convert it so I could work with it in Premier or any other video editing tool.  It is a free download from convertvobtoavi.com

      I hope this helps.

    • Hi Daniel -

That helped hugely!  Thank you so much for the reply!  So, to do this in the future, would Premier help me?  I just got the designer edition that didn't really help me out - none of the tools could read from the dvd.  Thanks so much for your answer!  I did the 3rd party software which are emailing the results, but wondering if I can have something in house to use!  Thanks again!

      Best regards,

      Liz

      • You're welcome.  Adobe Premiere Pro is great for video editing although it was a bit pricey (almost $700). I've also used Pinnacle Studio which works great for less (under $100).  Adobe also has Premiere Elements in the same price range as Pinnacle's product but I can't tell you the differences between them as I have never used Premiere Elements.

If you rarely need to capture video from a DVD then I would use the 3rd party options.  If you have personal videos that you want to combine music, photos, video clips and titles, then I would look at Premiere Elements or Pinnacle Studio.  If you need to go beyond a hobby tool then Adobe Premiere Pro. If you're on a Mac, there is also Final Cut Studio to look at.  Again, I hope this helps.  Just have fun with video editing.  I do. :-o

    • ouch!  $700 - I didn't realize that :)  Thanks for your advice - I didn't even know what tool to start with!  I looked into Pinnacle and it sounds like just what I need.  I'm not going to be doing a huge amount of editing - basically just posting videos onto websites - and not a large amount.  But wanted to get into video just a bit too!

Thanks so much for taking the time to answer!  Much appreciated!
