      Title:
General Group Discussion - What do you want out of this group?
      Content:

Welcome and many thanks to all who passed the word along to others. As of right now we have a mailing list of over 20 people who are interested in attending the Minnesota AfterEffects User Groups.I have also created a Facebook group to help spread the word as well.

First order of business is finding a place to hold our meetings.
If you have an idea, please feel free to explore that option as far as you can and get back to me regarding the details and what we would need to do to utilize that space.

Second order of business would be to discuss what everyone would like out of this group.
Presentations, discussions, troubleshooting, contests, etc. I would like everyones input on this one, even if it is "I don't care.".

Well I think thats enough for now.

      Happy Discussing!

    • 1. I'm not sure of a place to meet off the hip...

      2. Regarding what to get out of the meetups, I would suggest a small poll to find out if the majority of the group uses AE for motion design, vfx/compositing, or both, and that might help determine the general direction of any offerings?

I personally use AE mainly for broadcast animation/large-format digital signage with random sprinklings of post work thrown-in for good measure, so I'm all over the place.

    • For general discussion, being from a 3d generalist background, it's sad to say, but my mind doesn't always think of the things that one can now do in AE... So it would be cool to have some workflow discussions on where 2d might really be the weapon of choice, and how to achieve some of the real 3d dazzle that AE offers....  Particles is always a topic of interest on my list too!

    • I agree.

Maybe one of the first meetups could include a disscussion/overview of:

      1. The advantages of multipass renders in AE.

      2. Getting animated 3D camera/null data into AE from various 3d apps.
I'm personaly a Maya/Cinema4D guy, but others may prefer Max, Xsi, or whatever.

So it may be helpful to ask the group what 3d apps everyone uses.

Then, maybe a conclusion to that process could be dropping in a Particular or ccParticleWorld layer into the scene with ID passes or holdout mattes for object occlusion, etc.

      just a few more ideas:)

    • Good to hear there is an AFX group in the works, I plan on attending on the 29th. I've been using AFX for about 10 years now, and have taught AFX classes at Digital Pictures before.

In terms of offering up content for a future meeting, I have been been in contact with a company called "Hardcore Computer". They make a uber fast liquid cooled computer.

Anything that can make creating and rendering faster always interests me.

I spoke with the rep about possibly setting up a demo, to see how fast this computer runs After Effects. Would anybody be interested in seeing this demo? I told him about the group and mentioned it may be cool to get him in for a future meeting. Maybe the last Wednesday in May???

Let me know, and if people are interested, I can set this up.
