Hi All:
Thanks to the generosity of our very own Judith Barnett, we have a place to hold our end-of-year meeting (which gives me until early 2010 to sort out our ongoing meetings).
Why thanks to Judith? Because she's graciously offered to open her home (in Alameda) to us and let us hold our meeting there.
It'll be an informal end-of-year wrap-up, with a focus on "Developer New Year's Resolutions". What changes are you planning on making in the coming year, and why? Bear in mind we're talking changes that are related to being a developer. Nobody really cares that I need to lose 10 more pounds before I can put on a speedo. Or maybe you do, in which case... seek help.
We will still be holding a raffle for Adobe software (up to a $2100 value!), so somebody's holiday season will be getting off to a jolly start :)
If you plan on attending, PLEASE RSVP, as that will help Judith know how many people to cook dinner for. *
As mentioned above, the meeting is in Alameda. Please contact me directly for the exact address.
Hope to see you there!
* Yeah, Judith's not cooking dinner. But it'd still be nice if you RSVP'd. In the immortal words of Dalton, "Be nice".
PS - Quick update on the raffle. Since I assume the question will be asked... the lucky winner will download the product of their choice, and a key will be emailed to them. As per the official source:
Adobe cannot send out boxed product to software winners and raffle licenses can not be sold or transferred.
**PLEASE NOTE: We can not provide enterprise software, hosted services, servers, or upgrade versions of software as prize options. (Examples of requests we can't fulfill: Flash Media Server, an upgrade to the Master Collection, or a Connect Pro account)

Yay Judith!
I think an informal discussion around improving ourselves for 2010 would be a great topic.
I gather there's no December meeting planned? I think you said that before but I can't remember why?
Given that we meet so early in the month, I thought a December meeting would fall too close to Thanksgiving. And what with so many people being busy between Thanksgiving and Kwanzukkahmas, I thought it'd be best to forego the December meeting.
Same rationale for January. With the early-in-the-month meeting schedule, I felt it fell too close to New Year's. People are still going to be in recovery mode from the holidays in general.
We're required by Adobe to hold at least 8 meetings per year. Assuming we forego December and January, that's still 10 meetings a year (further assuming we land a stable ongoing meeting location), with an optional 2 more off when/if they coincide with conferences.
For me personally, as alluded to above, it also gives me a little more breathing room in trying to secure that stable ongoing meeting location. So, as it stands now our next meeting (after November) would be February 3rd.
But hey, if there's an overwhelming demand for December and/or January meetings, I'm open to doing it :)
Sounds like fun - I'm willing to serve as beer sponsor again. :)
BTW, I'm volunteering to be a one-man shuttle service between Fruitvale BART and Judith's house in Alameda for anyone who'd like to ride BART to the meeting.
I'll also be coming over from Mountain View, so anyone along the way is welcome to ping me for a ride.
If anyone else coming would be available to help shuttle/carpool, that'd be awesome - post your availability in the comments.
Thanks!
James
Cool... and since we're not meeting in an office, beer will be permitted! :)
Hey folks.
1) If you're coming tonite, even if you're a maybe, it's kind of important that you contact me directly to get the address of the meeting (I'm looking at you, RubberGumBall) :) You can send me a direct message via the Groups site, or via my blog's contact form at http://charlie.griefer.com/blog/contact.cfm.
2) I parked at the Fruitvale BART station this morning and headed into work from there. So I'll be at the Fruitvale station this afternoon (thinking around 5:30) with a car. If anybody needs a lift to the meeting, contact me (see above) and I'll make sure you get from the Fruitvale BART station to the meeting. If I'm in a particularly good mood after the meeting, I'll even see that you get back to the station :)
3) Picked up some shirts at cfdev camp over the weekend that I'll be handing out tonite. The black "CF Hero" shirts (I think that's what people are referring to them as). Either way, free shirt. I should also have one additional software item to raffle off, over and above the major drawing. FlexBuilder 3 Professional. I'm going to double check, but if nothing else, it should allow you to get upgrade pricing (as opposed to full price) on FlashBuilder 4 once it's released.
That's about it. Hoping for a good turnout tonite. Tell your friends. Tell your co-workers. Let's wrap up the year in East Bay CFUG style (I don't know what that means, but we'll figure it out tonite).
