Ok, so here is the problem.
I recently switched from a PC laptop to a Macbook Pro. the PC has lightroom 1.4something, while the Mac has lightroom 2. I did a direct transfer of the photo files and all their metadata to the mac, and rebuilt my catalog from that.
I am running into several problems. First off, the Collections did not transfer, so I've been trying to rebuild them. I did an Import from the PC external drive which I had all the photos on to try and fix this. as a result, all of my photo files "seem" to have been duplicated in Lightroom, but while they have all the metadata and every other detail (cropping size, color label etc) the photos are blank. The Collections transfered, but they are associated with all the blank files.
Also, I've done several photo shoots since setting up the mac, and have imported the files onto it, not the pc.
So what I am looking to do at this point is to find a way to either transfer everything from the PC to the mac (photos, catalogs, collections, and all) without overwriting the new photos I have in the mac catalog, or find a way to simply copy the collections from the PC to the Mac so they are associated with the photos now on the mac.
DO I have any hope in hell here?

Hi Michael-
Thanks for posting a question here! Sorry for the delayed response.
Hope is definately there. The following is my attempt at an answer. I'd also suggest posting the question at www.lightroomforums.net or http://forums.adobe.com/community/lightroom. These are the best two forums on the net for Lightroom and you'll have access to hundreds of other expert LR users who will be able to provide additional insight.
Collections are handled differently in 2 from 1, which is part of the problem. Importing things shouldn't cause these kinds of problems as far as I know, though.
How did you handle the export from LR 1 on the PC --> import to LR 2 on the Mac?
Before starting - back up your catalog in LR 2 on your mac, just in case anything bad happens (always a good idea before doing something like this).
Open your LR1 catalog on the PC and select the folders in the Library module you want to export and choose File > Export as Catalog. That'll export everything - keywords, adjustments, collections and if you want, the original negatives. Transfer that whole set of stuff over to the Mac. You can then import that catalog into LR 2 and it should merge things rather nicely. You can then go and delete the problem folders in 2.
Let us know how it goes.
Thanks!
