      Title:
Need Opinions - Student Portfolio Wordpress Template?
      Content:

So I'm looking for a way to help out some of my students at the college where I teach. They're all getting great advice to get their portfolio going and to get a website and their work on the web, but what about those students that can't really afford it right now. Sure, there's coroflot.com and deviantart.com and there are other places, but what I'm really trying to do is localize it a little bit. I want to do something like this website: http://www.carbonmade.com/portfolios/

The college is Macomb Community College here in the Metro Detroit Area and as you probably have heard/experienced, it's been rough out here lately. I'm just trying to put up a free site for all the Macomb students to get all their work exposed. I don't have a template picked out to customize yet cause I haven't found one that can do this and allow multiple users the ability to create their own content in a way that is actually really easy and user-friendly. Is Wordpress the right thing to use or no? Any thoughts and opinions are greatly appreciated. Thanks!

    • Hmmm... I don't have an experience with Wordpress, but I wonder if maybe this would make for a good group project?  It would give the group exposure to a variety of Adobe products and maybe some different disciplines than we are normally used to.  Thoughts?

    • I think that's a great idea Mike! I'm up for it if you guys are! Everything is currently on my server, so I could setup user access and all that fun stuff if we agree to doin this as a group.

    • I actually recommended that for an ACD friend of mine with a writer background. His site came out clean and professional, and only took him a few days to put together. I think it is a very good idea.

    • True...his site did turn out nicely, but I need the ability to have tons of users...multiple users so they can put their own portfolio online and I know with Wordpress it's not that user-friendly to be able to add so many users and let them control the site and their own section. Not sure what to choose at this point, but still open for suggestions. I am not sure Wordpress would be the way to go, but maybe I should look into another service like Drupal or Joomla or something. Not sure. I'd prefer not to reinvent the wheel and I like the decent selection of templates from Wordpress that you can fully customize. As far as a design perspective I love the way Wordpress works, but as far as functionality, it's going to have to be more like this site...
