      Title:
      Adobe Groups Progress 11/10
      Announcement:

This evening Adobe Groups did a full development build and added many new features. We added a new user type that enabled community managers to become administrators of the groups they run, woohoo! The site added the official Adobe.com footer and a new RSS syndication resource (to be exposed soon). I am pretty excited about RSS syndication because it lets RSS drive lots of content into Adobe Groups. Every blog in the community and every article on Adobe.com can be on Groups with a few clicks.

Our team has been working all day handing out credentials to Community Managers and they have wasted no time customizing their groups home page, adding sponsors, and adding content. I was floored to see the customization of several user groups and would like to give some kudos to the groups and their passionate managers:

       DirectorForum and manager Martin Schaefer

AUG Chicago, The Chicago Area Adobe User Group and manager Michael Schaffner

Northern VA Adobe User Group and manager Lisa 'Kavka' Heselton

Flash Development User Group - FDUG and manager theSMINC(aka Lou Barber)

North West Adobe User Group and manager Elaine Giles

I am SURE I am missing some customized groups, so please post customized group URLS in this comments. Special thanks for customizing your groups and helping get Adobe Groups off to a great start.

      Cheers,

      TEAM C5X!

    • hey ted, i'd love to start customizing anycfug - can you dish out those credentials to me and tom so we can make you proud! thanks for all the great work you have all done to make this happen!

    • When should we expect to have edit rights?

    • We are working on getting edit rights out to folks asap. The problem is that we jumped from 220 groups to over 300+ wanting group sites. Things are just taking longer than expected.

      We are peddling fast!

      Ted :)

    • Mine is done for now, will probably change everything again after MAX, or before, ya never know about us designers. ;)

    • Hi the maug is working and have some details in the header see http://groups.adobe.com/groups/a86cae766f/summary Try refresh the page and see how change. The code is simply and publish like snnipet into the group. Next step... Apply some css. Cheers!
    • Very happy to have my group up and running! Is there an ETA on RSVP capability? I don't see it on events...
    • I wonder if it is possible to have a shorter URL name that can be remembered easily by the group members. For example, http://groups.adobe.com/group_name_appreviation?

    • We have ours pretty well rounded out for now:

      http://groups.adobe.com/groups/b2a9af8306/summary

Any chance we'll be able to CSS-out the rest of our group site, rather than just the summary page?

Many thanks Adobe - looking forward to seeing you folks in San Fran at MAX!

    • Still in progress, but the banners look pretty SICK!

    • We are working on shorter custom urls for groups. I believe it will be added in one of the builds post MAX.

      Ted :)

    • is progressing ...
see: http://ag.maug.es ;)  my short url for now...
    • Ted, we are still costumizing our RiaPT (creating new banner and avatar) but you can already see something at

    • hey there. I noticed adobegroups was down last night with ad saying new requested features were being added? Am just curious, what was added? :]

      Many thanks!

    • I changed the banner at last ;) Check it out

    • Hi Rafiq,  With this snippet http://groups.adobe.com/posts/f614da7ace  if youlike you can put  many images in one folder, of your server, and the script catch one random image to replace your  http://auge.beedesignstudio.com/wp-content/uploads/abstract2.jpg  . To do this you need put the url to your .php file ex. http://auge.beedesignstudio.com/adobegroups/myheaders.php

    • Thanks alejandro, this looks cool. I will try it once I reach home ;)

    • Any one know how to show only the first paragraph in blog post in the summary page? like we use <!--more--> in wordpress.

    • hi all,

anyone worked out a way to get a swf banner? i've been banging my head against a brick wall for the last half hour :)

      Matt

    • @Rafiq, you can split the blog post into two boxes when you edit it. Only the contents of the first box shows in the summary and you get a "more..." link, just like Wordpress. The boxes are "Entry" and "More" on the blog edit page.
    •

      Hi

It would be very nice to start customize group site. but when??

      Pawel

    • Hi,

Can I enter short entry without "more" link?

I've added video file and I'd like to delete unusefull link more. But how to do it?

    • Nice features we have. Already started cutomiing our groups home page. Wondering if it is also possible to change the color of the content main background and not just the pods. Isn't possible I guess, is it? Cheers! marc
    • Oh and I forgot:
Flashforum managed by Sascha and me
      ;)
    • I created a "friends list" in our summary page. A few ppl already adapted this. Just take a group pod for this.
    • i adapted it from marcs site on the UK MaD site

    • Hi,

I am joining on other user groups.

      nice to meet you~!

      thanks for your job.

    • what's the latest on the API?  Just curious.

    • Dan, curiosity killed the cat!

We are making sure the api is SSO compliant with Adobe U/P login. It is in sanity check mode but this is a lower priority right now. We will launch the API sortly after MAX EU, when my brain stops hurting about Dec 15+.

      Ted :)

    • Hey Ted,

nearly done customizing the summary page for UK MaD,

you can check it out @ http://groups.adobe.com/groups/e5ecd800f7/summary

thanks for all the work u guys have been doing on this, groups is going to rock :)

      matt

    • That's really nice Matt - I hope you'll share details with the more design-challenged of us? :)
    • Hey Matt,

Just fyi the ability to use swf's when customizing your group page is coming very soon.

      Cheers,

      Bob

    • Bob - awesome, can't wait for that!

Sean - Thanks, more than happy to be of any help if u want some of the details. anything in particular jump to mind? can't take all the credit though, been working with some other cool designers :)

anyone - any news on being able to embedd video from adobe tv in the video section? tried earlier, but it seems to only let you embed youtube, brightcove or a Flv from your own server. any ideas for a work around? or am i just missing something?

      cheers

      matt

    • @Matt, maybe a detailed blog post on styling it (including the rounded corners etc) - once the site has launched next week of course!
    • @sean, yeah, sounds like a plan :) I'll try and get something knocked up over the next few days... not sure where the best place to post that would be ... maybe the adobe community partners group?

    • Remember that once this site goes live some of these announcements may get removed, so you might want to move the discussion to the Community Partners forum.

    • I keep re-doing my page. http://groups.adobe.com/groups/40d723070f/summary newest version. :P Oh, and a thanks to whoever made the new button styles in FW. :)

    • hey dee,

nice work, looks really cool. :)

      matt

    • Hey Matt try the new Flash (swf) panel. Just put in the url, width, height, and version number of flash required.

      Best,

      Bob

    • hey bob,

I'll give it a go now, nice one :)

      matt

    • Well, that was an interesting challenge:) My site is now customized. Introducing, AniMotion NM (v1) http://groups.adobe.com/groups/f2b0e27b6b/summary

It will be nice when we can customize the look of other pages in our sites as well (not necessarily adding modules, just the ability to make the look and feel consistent). Hope that is in the plans ;)

    • hey bob,

nice job on the swf panel, i've made myself a custom join btn now :) One thing that would help would be able to set the background as transparent, but for the time being i have just matched the grey behind (#eeeeee).

      cheers

    • Nice looking join button! I'll look into the custom background color on the swf.

I just entered this forum. How do you go about setting up these sites. I already have a profile.

      • posted 11/20/08 by akear

I just registered my site. Not much action here. Hope this is not the future of Adobe User Groups.

    • Hey Matt... you will now find a wmode option in your flash panels. That should allow you to do transparent backgrounds now.

    • @ bob ,

nice, i'll check that out tonight. Looks like i can finally get rid of the dodgy grey box from my swf file now ;)

      thanks :)

    • @akear, my UG has already had 29 members signup - not bad since it was only publicly announced two days ago!
      • posted 11/20/08 by akear

The other NJ User Group I talked to yesterday never heard of these changes. I am just finding out now. I think maybe adobe wants to weed out some user groups. I guess that is business...

    • @akear -- please check the AUG-Announce list for background, we've posted a number of announcements and status reports.

      • posted 11/21/08 by akear

They must be over 300 group trying to sign up at once. It is going to take awhile. For now I will

just run my user group as I have in the past. I will see what will happen in January.
