DETAILS:
Join us for the second user group presentations by Catalin (Kimi) Dobre who is Adobe's Technical Leader on the OSMF and the Flash/Strobe Media Playback video player projects (FMP/SMP).
Earlier this month Adobe released both OSMF 1.6 and Strobe Media Playback 1.6.  There is so much great new functionality in both that Kimi presented SMP 1.6 last month and this month it's the turn of OSMF 1.6.
So what’s new in OSMF 1.6 and what will I learn at at the user group session?
Mobile: Video usage on smartphones and tablets continues to grow rapidly. Just today, Knowledge Networks published that video viewing on mobile devices among 13 to 54 year olds has doubled over the last year. As part of the 1.6 release, we have included new features that will help you bring your content to mobile devices.OSMF: Stage Video support for hardware-accelerated video presentation (requires Flash Player 10.2+)Strobe Media Playback: Smartphone and tablet optimized chrome for Flash-enabled devicesStrobe Media Playback: HTML5 video player for non-Flash devicesStrobe Media Playback: JavaScript device detection library for selecting the appropriate player and chromeOSMF: DVR rolling window support, which allows you specify how far back from the live point viewers can rewind (requires the newly released FMS 4.5)OSMF: Late-binding audio for providing viewers with multiple audio track options, e.g. additional languages, director’s commentary, and “home” v. “away” coverageEnhanced Viewer Experience: One of OSMF’s core objectives has always been to enable you to create engaging experiences for your viewers. Towards that end, we have released the following features.Core Framework: Beyond new functionality, we continue to improve the existing core framework. In OSMF 1.6, we have made improvements to HTTP Dynamic Streaming as well as the ability to better manage bitrate profiles with multi-level manifests.Documentation: We have made the first major step in improving our documentation with the launch of acompletely revamped wiki for OSMF and Strobe Media Playback. We hope this will make finding information and resources on specific topics easier, and I encourage you to bookmark it for future reference.

DETAILS:

Join us for the first of two user group presentations by Catalin (Kimi) Dobre who is Adobe's Technical Leader on the OSMF and Flash and Strobe Media Playback video player projects.

Earlier this month Adobe released both OSMF 1.6 and Strobe Media Playback 1.6.  There is so much great new functionality in both that Kimi will be presenting separately on SMP 1.6 (this month) and OSMF 1.6 (next month).

This session targets experienced ActionScript and JavaScript programmers.

If you aren't familiar with it, Strobe Media Playback is an open source, pre-built media player (built with OSMF) that you can quickly and easily integrate into your website.  In the presentation, Kimi will discuss support for the newly added enhanced device detection library, new SMP skins for tablet and mobile devices, the new HTML5 video player (for non-flash devices), StageVideo and DVR rolling window support.  Kimi also will preview the class StrobeMediaPlaybackAIR which supports SMP being included in AIR applications (using AIR to target native applications).

Kimi will be stepping through important segments of the SMP video player codebase. The session will be interactive and questions are welcome. Other members of the Strobe Media Playback and OSMF development teams will also be on hand to assist in fielding questions.

fyi ... An overview of the OSMF/SMP 1.6 releases is available on the OSMF team blog here:
http://blogs.adobe.com/osmf/2011/09/announcing-osmf-and-strobe-media-playback-1-6.html

This is a unique opportunity to both understand solutions for common media player development issues, and to become acquainted with the codebase on the open source Strobe Media Playback project.
