The main point to the meeting is to help new developers just learning flex how to hit the ground running, and show why Flex is a great choice for building RIAs.

Kevin Towes is the Product Manager at Adobe Systems Incorporated, responsible for Flash Media Server. Prior to Adobe, Kevin spent 13 years working as a prime consultant enabling customers with Flash-based communication, collaboration, social media and video streaming solutions using Flash Media Server. His FMS Live Video work with Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) led to an Emmy nomination in 2004.

Join Adobe Flash Media Server Product Manager, Kevin Towes as he steps through some of the new features that were recently announced at Adobe MAX around the new Flash Player 10.1. His discussion will cover enhancements to Flash Media Server (RTMP), Adobe’s P2P technology (RTMFP) and also the new HTTP Streaming technology with Project Zeri. Kevin will discuss enhancements to Dynamic Streaming with RTMP buffer management features that will increase the quality of service with stream reconnection and smart seeking with an upcoming service pack for Flash Media Server 3.5. Kevin will also discuss the new announcement around Project Zeri which enables HTTP streaming to Flash Player 10.1, and finally RTMFP and multicast technology updates. There will be time for Q&A so bring your questions ahead of time.

If you are coding in ActionScript 3.0, I am sure that you have heard of FDT, or the Flash Development Tool, which is a plugin for the Eclipse editor, meant to speed up your actioscript development time.

This will the the last event of the year, and this topic is not to be missed!!

I was hoping that Rich Shupe could come here to give a talk, but I have not heard back from him, so I have to assume that he will not be able to come give a talk to the group. I was really hoping that he would come as he is my favorite flash author.

Therefore I will be giving the talk, and the talk will be on the 26th of this month,and the meeting place has changed as well. I could not reserve the usually meeting space at the University,and so this time we will meet here instead.

I will be discussing on how designers can use external data sources, such as text files, XML and even flash remoting to enhance thier flash applications. The primary goal of the meeting is to explain how XML & Flash are used together, and why you will want to use XML in your projects.

However, I still want to expose the members to other ways of means of using external data with flash.

Also, I will show how to first make a simple website just in flash(on the timeline), and then demostrate how to improve on this using AS 3 & XML.

Meeting Minutes

I would like to thank Sam Rivello for coming here to Speak to our group!

The Meeting was great, and was actually our first meeting with a feature speaker. I usually did the talks myself, and so it was great to have a speaker like Sam to come here.

Also, I was so happy to see so much interest in the meeting topic as well. There was 16 people who showed up for the event, and this is very impressive as only 4 people were already members, so 12 other showed up for this talk. I am hoping that some of these 12 people, and maybe their friends as well will be joining our group, and that we will see them in future meetings as well:)

7:00 PM - 8:00 PM:

The meeting started on schedule at 7:00 PM and after the introductions the meeting got under way with Sam demonstrating augmented reality with Flash CS 4. The outcome had everybody in the room saying WOW! Afterwards Sam did a great job explaining the concept and the then a complete code review.

8:00 PM - 8:15 PM:

Intermission. This was the part of the meeting where people got to enjoy all the great food that was provided by CTAHR at the University of Hawaii, and where people got a chance to get to know each other as well!

8:00 PM - 10:15 PM:

The second part of the meeting Sam demonstrated how to create a Massively Multiplayer Online (MMO) Game in Flex 3. First Sam did a great job explaining the technology and then did a complete walk through of the code.

10:15 PM:

We were hoping that people at the meeting would want to come back the next night for a talk on PureMVC for Flash & Flex, but the interest was not there and the meeting ended.

The meeting ending a short while ago,and I just now got a chance to discuss this, R Blank, and Michele gave such wonderful talks, very impressive stuff was discussed!

I will blog about this tomorrow, right now I am too tired. Sorry about the short notice for this one, but I just found out at the last minute, which I only gave the members of the list an hour or so to get together, so i am stoked that a few of us could actually get together and go over some flash.
