Hallo Flex Labs Members,

Hallo Flex Labs Mitglieder,
wir sind gerade mit einigen Firmen in Kontakt um Bücher für unsere User Group zu bekommen.
Es wäre schön, wenn ihr uns Bücher nennt, die ihr gern lesen möchtet.

Just returned from the MAX Bash party after having a good day at the conference. I attended the following sessions:
"What's New In Flash Player" - some insights about the upcoming version 10.1 of the Flash Player. The main focus lies on the mobile space (they said explicitly "Mobile first!") with some small additions to the desktop versions.
The general session was all about Flash sites and some demos.
"Flash Player Internals" was also mostly about the to be supported mobile devices and how to keep your flash movies simple to let them run in a constrained environment.
"How NOT to Code Flex" was a little bit disappointing since the speaker highlighted 7 "don'ts" but did not give very good explanations, what to use instead.
"What's Coming in Adobe AIR 2" was another session about the changes in Flash Player 10.1 which will be part of AIR 2. Additionally there will be included the latest WebKit (HTML5, CSS-Transitions, -Animations) and JavaScript (Nitro) versions included.

Now I am back at my hotel where I finally have a stable WLAN connection. The wireless reception in the convention center was horrible and I was unable to get a stable connection.
The first day at Adobe MAX was quite interesting. It started with the keynote at the Nokia Theatre just next to the convention center. Due to strange security regulations one had to go through a metal detector and hand out the bags which were being searched. Then they handed out 3D glasses. Since the event was being streamed I will not go into details, except that the parts of the Avatar movie which were shown in 3D after the stream ended were really cool. I am looking forward to December 18th to see the movie as a whole.
"Moving from Flex 3 to Flex 4" gave an insight about the changes in Flex 4. They did some really cool things especially with States, Animations and 2-Way-Bindings and I am very tempted to use Flash Builder for my next Flex project.
"GPU Acceleration in the next Flashplayer" was being held by Nvidia guys. They showed some impressive things using the development version of Flash Player 10.1 on a HP netbook that used their ARM based computer-on-a-chip with a GPU called Tegra. All the heavy video and 2D rendering was done by the GPU which resulted in 10 times less battery drain and huge speed improvements.
"Effects in Flex 4" showed the new Animation classes in the Spark namespace and their features. Some of the demos can be seen here.
"What's new in Flex 4" had about 70 % the same content as "Moving from Flex 3 to Flex 4". I wonder if they compare their presentations beforehand. Nonetheless the demos where really impressive. Especially the things one can do with the new Layout mechanism. They showed how easy it was to create a circular layout manager which could be rotated in 3D space and used as a kind of a carousel control. And this all without changing the components.
On the few occasions when I was able to get an internet connection I received an email that I had won the session survey and could collect a book coupon. I got it and headed straight to the Adobe book shop to get this "Flex on Rails" book but they sent me to the O'Reilly booth where I could only choose between some beginners books. Rather disappointed I decided to take the "Adobe AIR 1.5 Cookbook".
I did not attend the "Meet the Teams" event since I was only wearing a T-Shirt and it was just too cold so I headed straight to the hotel.

I arrived in Los Angeles on Friday afternoon, did some sightseeing since then (I really like L.A.) and I am looking forward to the keynote event, which starts in a couple of hours.
Yesterday I went to the Los Angeles Convention Center for registration. To my utter disappointment I was handed out a small shopping bag with come flyers, my badge and a refillable (empty) water bottle. That's it! No backpack, no sweets. :-(
The convention center is not very far from my hotel in Downtown so I can go there in a couple of minutes. The keynote will be in the Nokia Theatre and one has to go through security checks and the like.
The first announcements for Flash Player 10.1, FlashBuilder 4 Beta 2 and Catalyst have already been made.
I have attached the schedule for the sessions I am planning to attend. Unfortunately one has to register in advance to get into a session since they will check your badge on the doors.
If I discover something noteworthy I will tweet it on @pegolon
