Wednesday night will be an quick introduction to the After Effects interface, then showcasing some of the new features as well as the old to make some creative effects. We'll take some raw footage shot with a mobile device, throw it in the cauldron along with some sound effects, a 3D element or two, a dash of typography, and mash it up Halloween style.

If time allows we'll also take a look at how AE and Flash have become closer companions for delivering video to web.

For anyone wanting to get their feet wet with one of Adobe's original flagship products, this will be a great primer to make some exciting projects.

Devin Reimer is a 25 year old Flash/Flex Developer with a Computer Science degree from the University of Manitoba. He is originally from Crystal City, Manitoba and now lives in Winnipeg. He is currently working at DMT as Lead Developer - Interactive Specialist. Outside of work he tries to do as much freelance work as possible, and in his free time he works on code examples and experiments for his blog at http://blog.almostlogical.com.

Agenda

One of the great things about the Flash developer community is its willingness to share code. Ever be working on a project and hit a point where you wonder, “how can I do this,” from simply moving a sprite across the stage to animating objects in full 3-D. Well, chances are good that somebody has already asked and answered the same question, and even posted some code that you could use in your project!

But how do you do that? Come to our next meeting to find out!

Devin Reimer will demonstrate how to incorporate open source ActionScript 3 libraries in your project to create engaging and innovative projects using very few lines of code. Devin will show us how it's done by using multiple different AS3 libraries to build an application!

Adobe recently made beta versions of Flash Catalyst and Flash Builder publicly available on Adobe Labs. Come out and see these exciting new tools in action and learn how they integrate with CS4 to speed Rich Internet Application development! See product feature demos, and learn how the new Flex framework powers both Flash Catalyst and Flex Builder to speed the development and testing of rich Internet applications and content.

We'll be meeting in our usual location, room P417, Red River College, Princess Street Campus, from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 25. This meeting will also include our software raffle for the first half of 2009 - if you've attended previous meetings this year you'll have a chance to win some great Adobe software!

Our presenter is Rasheed Akhtar. After university, Rasheed worked for IC Group, first as a web developer, responsible for the creation of online promotions. He then moved into business intelligence as their senior business intelligence developer. His responsibilities included the creation and execution of business intelligence strategy, as well as the management of enterprise reporting solutions for clients comprised of 30% of the world's top brands and leading agencies. Primary technologies included .NET, SQL Server, and Flex. He also provides contracting/consulting services specializing in business intelligence, web analytics and RIA development. He has worked with numerous organizations varying from providing web analytics seminars at RRC to developing multi-language flash-based kiosk software for hardware manufacturers. He is currently working with AIS developing eLearning products for the health care industry. Rasheed's responsibilities include product development (Flash/Flex, PHP, and mySQL) for both eLearning and business intelligence.
