When the online program didn't work well enough, he ad libbed his presentation and did a great job. It was easy to follow and informational...Thanks Michael. I look forward to February when you do the second half of the presentation.

Now, whatever I type, types double. If I type an 'R', I get 'RR'. If I go to copy/paste something, it gives me 2 of the item. Has anyone ever had this happen? More importantly, how do I make it stop. I've tried rebooting it, shutting it completely down and then restarting (both the keyboard and the computer). Unfortunately, I don't know what I did prior to this happening. Any thoughts or suggestions greatly appreciated. Altho I have an extra keyboard, I want my good one back. Thanks.

I'm opening this discussion area so that we can talk it over.

A little history:

The group was founded about 8 or so years ago by Gordon Clarke. At the time, we were the Sierra Macromedia User Group, or Sierra MMUG. The "Sierra" part was because Gordon lived in Grass Valley, and for many years we met in Auburn. Most of our members back then were from the foothills area - Grass Valley, Auburn, Colfax, Nevada City, etc.

When Adobe bought Macromedia, we had some discussion about what to do with the name, and decided to keep the acronym, but change the official name to Sierra Multimedia User Group. I took over management of the group around the same time, but for various reasons, Gordon maintained ownership of the domain name sierrammug.org.

About two months ago, however, Gordon called me and said that he wanted to transfer ownership of the domain name to me. Gaining ownership of the name made me start to think that perhaps it was time to think about whether the name was really meaningful to us anymore, or if something else would make more sense.

We've had an almost complete turn over of our membership in the years since I took over the group. Today, many more of our members are from the Sacramento area than are from the foothills. We still have members - including some very active members - who come down from Grass Valley or Auburn, but most everyone is now coming from the city. Since we moved the meetings out of Auburn and started meeting in Roseville and Rocklin, our average attendance at meetings has gone from 5-6 to 15-20.

We don't necessarily *have* to change the name. I don't particularly love the Sierra MMUG name, but I don't hate it, either. If there is a consensus here that the current name works, then we'll keep it.

With that said, I'll open it up for discussion. I don't want to start out with any preconditions or requirements for the name. Please feel free to suggest anything that comes to mind. If you really, really like one of the suggestions, let us know. If you really, really dislike a name that's been suggested, let us know, too, although please be kind. :)

I reside in Auburn and although been a member for several years only recently began seriously playing with Flash. I am trying to close the Flash movie URL and cannot find anything giving me a script. This is probably very basic for most of you but I am at wits end. I have the swf file opening inside an Adobe Breeze URL and I want the end-user to, at the end of the swf movie, to return to Adobe Breeze without having to close the browser window themselves.

Please help!

sign me...desperate in Auburn.

While I was able to connect to my client's web server, when I tried to 'GET'' the files, all that showed up was a folder-no files. I understand that some FP files have coding so that DW can't 'see' the files...don't know if this is the case.

I've also tried within DW: SITE/IMPORT FrontPage Site - filled in all the appropriate info and I get the error message: While executing onClick in FP Site Import.htm, the following JavaScript error(s) occured: At line 422 of file "HD/Applications/Adobe Dreamweaver CS3: Configuration:commands:FP Site Import.js": ReferenceError: FPMigrationKit is not defined

Here is where I've searched for answers with no success:

- all thru the DW help files

- Google & Yahoo search using the search criteria: import Frontpage site into DW (and several variations of that) , FPMigrationKit,

- adobe.com

-Several Adobe/Macromedia forums

The web server is Microsoft based. The website was created in FrontPage with a shopping cart using asp

If anyone can help me, I'd really appreciate it. If you need more info, just let me know.

Thanks, in advance.

A bit of background:

Our organization was founded a dozen or so years ago by Gordon Clarke, a Flash developer based in Grass Valley. The acronym "SierraMMUG" originally stood for "Sierra Macromedia User Group". At the time, we met up in Auburn and really were a Sierra-based group - most of our members were coming from Grass Valley, Auburn, Colfax, and the like. When Adobe purchased Macromedia, we made the decision to keep the "MMUG" part of the name, going with the somewhat clunky "Multi-media User Group" to try to justify it. About a year ago, we moved down the hills and began meeting in Rocklin.

While I have nothing against the name as it is, I'd like to consider a change. One of the reasons for keeping it was the domain name on the website, but as we really do plan to gradually phase out the site in favor of groups, that justification no longer holds as much weight. We'll certainly retain the domain name for search engine purposes, but can easily redirect it somewhere else.

At this point, I'm totally open to any and all suggestions that people have. If you really like SierraMMUG, that's cool - as I said, I'm not hell-bent on changing it. But if you have something else that you'd like to suggest, then please do so. If we get a few good suggestions (and if the consensus seems to be in favor of change), then we'll put the suggestions out there for a vote and then move on to a new logo design, etc.

There aren't any real requirements from Adobe on the name. Most user groups have geographical and/or product-based names, such as Sacramento ColdFusion User Group. But there are a few "creative" names out there; for instance, the Fireworks group in SF is called Fire on the Bay. If we're going to keep the geographical moniker, we'll need to discuss a little about what that geography should be - should we retain something along the Sierra lines, or go with Sacramento?

Please let me know what your thoughts are.

Thanks.

Thread by pfortunato78

Content

Hello everyone!

Thanks again Rob for a great AC3 class. I'm not sure if this is the right place to put a code help request, but here goes:

I'm trying to make a rotating banner with buttons on it (check the uploaded FLA). It sorta does what I want it to do right now, but my code is really... REALLY awful.

Basically, this is what I want it to do:

1) banner consists of 3 different banners that rotate out with an animation in a continuous loop.

2) little buttons in the lower right hand side will whisk you to the appropriate banner, but will NOT be clickable on its specific banner.

3) rolling over the main banner img or the button will also pause the movie

4) clicking on the main banner img will send you to a URL

I have a very hard time finding a way to be able to call a function over and over again without remaking the function and renaming it. If you have some time, please take a look at the FLA and pass me some pointers. Thanks all!

Regards,

Paul

Please feel free to comment: what ideas would you really, really LOVE to see; what would bore you to death. What other topics do you want? Who would you like to speak on things?

The two big general areas that people expressed an interest in were print design (in particular, InDesign) and video production (Flash video, Premiere, After Effects, and creating video for DVD and BluRay were mentioned specifically.

These are two big areas that we rarely if ever discuss. Mostly, this is simply because I'm a web design person mainly, and since I do most of the presenting, well, that pretty much leads to a bunch of web design presentations. But I would love to do more on both of these.

On the video end, I already one have definite topic lined up: sometime next year (we need to work out the date), member Joe Gerard has agreed to present on Adobe After Effects. Another member, Matt Elyash, has also volunteered to do something video-related. So we at least are off to a good start on that realm.

As for print ... we had a specific request for InDesign. So I'll try to get something put together for that, but if anyone out there is really an InDesign expert and wants to do the preso, then please let me know. And what other print topics do people want?

Anything else? Remember that while we may be officially an Adobe UG, we aren't required to always talk about Adobe products.

I'm assuming that we can skip super-beginner type stuff, but I'd be fine doing some meetings on other things.

Some thoughts:

Layers

Channels

New features of CS4

Color management

Drawing vectors

Other ideas?
