Just a reminder we have CFUG this week. It should be a fun night, as we will be celebrating our 10th anniversary(yeah, thats right the AZCFUG started 10 years ago!)

Sean Tierney, our group's first manager, will be presenting on his company's product JumpBox. In addition it will likely be our last meeting of the year (unless something exciting comes up) and we will be giving away a free copy of ColdFusion 9!

I'd like to encourage everyone to try to come out, it's not only an opportunity to learn something new it's a great chance to meet and network with fellow developers here in town.

If you're coming please RSVP so I can get a rough headcount, I may order pizza if enough people are coming...

This should be a great preso as I know alot of people are wondering how the world of cloud computing is going to change their hosting setups over the next few years. Additonally, we are likely to be joined by a number of people from th Phoenix iPhone Developers User Group. So this could be a great opportunity to meet and connect with folks out there already developing iPhone apps, if that something you've been thinking about getting into.

I'm adding this for posterity, as the meeting was quickly assembled ad-hoc on the mail list just for the sake of having a May meeting. Hey, if nothing else, the group leaders need an excuse to hang out at Aunt Chilada's.

Nate Johnson gave a presentation and demo of Balsamiq, a quick and modern prototyping tool built in Adobe Air. Nate showed us how he quickly prototyped a couple web applications, and how we could use it to draw iPhone apps. Thanks, NJ, we enjoyed it!

John Blayter - Hey! Wasn't he the manager of this group? Now he runs the Denver CFUG, and he'll be here, virtually in person (that is to say, not actually here, but still a person).

Agenda

John has been preparing his Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) presentation since last year for just this occasion! John, of course, was the manager of the AZCFUG just a couple years ago. Since moving to Denver, he has been practicing the black arts of the SOA ninja, and is coming clean to teach the Phoenix-area ninja initiates.

John will start with an introduction to SOA, what how and why, then talk about refactoring applications from spaghetti code and lasagna layer code (yeah, I think I just made that up) to a solid SOA platform.

Join us, as usual, at the UAT building's main auditorium in Tempe at 6:30 PM, and plan to visit Aunt Chilada's after for networking time. The weather's nice, so stay late.

ColdFusion 8 provides a robust framework for quickly prototyping rich ajaxified applications, once again making the hard things easy. This topic will cover a brief introduction to the new ajax components and functions included with ColdFusion 8, how they can quickly be used to provide very slick application prototypes, and how the use of the ExtJS API can further extend, or replace, that base functionality to create truly rich applications.

About Cutter:

Cutter is the Senior Web Developer for Dealerskins, a Nashville, Tennessee based hosting provider that develops websites for the Automobile Dealership market. Cutter began his web career when he began learning HTML 1 while in the US Army and stationed with the National Security Agency. Cutter got into application development as a Corporate Support Specialist for a regional ISP, just prior to becoming the IT Director of Seacrets, a large resort destination on the Eastern Shore of Maryland. Cutter has extensive experience as a server- and client-side developer, with a popular blog dedicated to ColdFusion, Ext JS, and other web development technologies. He is also the co-author of Learning Ext JS, the first book to be released on learning the Ext JS framework.

I know the end of the year can be quite hectic. Lots to do at work, holidays to prepare for and for some of our members, dodging mortar attacks on their way to work (be careful over there Ray).

Anyhow, Nathan and Alan were chatting and thought it would be nice to have a very casual end of the year "meeting". Something simple where we can all get together for a few hours after work one night, talk about nerdy stuff, eat some food, drink a few drinks and just relax. Oh yeah, and give away two boxes full of schwag and a free copy of CS4.

Nathan and Alan will be buying some food (nachos and such) Everyone is on their own for drinks and full meals.

If anyone(or any companies, recruiters as well...) is interested in sponsoring the event please contact us and we can work out the details. Anything would be nice, ask you bosses if they can pony up 50 / 100 bucks to help out.

In any case, we hope to see you all out there. RSVPs would be nice, but by no means required.
