So the Flex SDK is open source now, but what does that mean to you? You are a Flex developer but you have never even looked at the code powering the Flex SDK. This session is focused on Flex veterans as well as beginners who want to get their hands dirty with the inner workings of the Flex SDK. This session will equip you with the knowledge to get started developing for the Flex framework itself.

We will cover the following topics:
- Resources to learn about the inner workings of the Flex SDK (Coding Conventions, Specs, etc...)
- Subversion, ANT, Mustella... What they are, and how they are used with the Flex SDK.
- Obtaining the Flex SDK source code.
- Setting up Flex Builder for working with the Flex SDK.
- Common pitfalls when getting set up.
- Finding bugs to fix
- How to run check-in tests.
- How to submit a patch, creating diff files.
- Getting involved in the community.. BugQuash, reviewing patches, spring cleaning the bug system.

This session will be presented by Nate Beck, one of the creators of BugQuash. Nate is an active member the Flex community, and has first-hand knowledge of the excitement and addiction that is contributing to the Flex SDK.

He's a great opportunity for anyone interested in learning more about Adobe Flex!

Flash Media Server User Group is proud to introduce Sumner Paine, Product Manager of the new Strobe Media Framework. Sumner's presentation will take place on Wednesday, June 3rd at 9am PST.
Strobe provides new delivery and monetization options for video distribution. Anyone can develop modules that plug into Strobe media players and enable things like advertising insertion, content delivery and syndication, micropayments, viewer authentication, transaction handling, and business model controls. With an open framework, the future of web video monetization can be developed collaboratively with lower costs and faster turnaround.
The new Strobe framework accelerates momentum for the Flash Platform ecosystem, including the Open Screen Project, an initiative announced in May 2008 and backed by more than 20 industry leaders. The Open Screen Project is dedicated to driving rich Internet experiences across televisions, personal computers, mobile devices, and consumer electronics. By providing open standards around media player development, Adobe is advancing the Open Screen Project and the ability of its participants to further their online media efforts.

Andy Beach is the Director of Product Management at Inlet Technologies, where he drives strategic product direction and oversees all aspects of product marketing, management, and support. He is also the author of Real World Video Compression, published by Peachpit in April of 2008. Prior to joining Inlet, Beach served as the Director of Product Development at Magnet Media where he oversaw the creation of Zoom In Online, a website offering exclusive access to the latest in creative culture, entertainment, and technology through regularly published podcasts, internet video and blogs. He also co-founded New York-based interactive agency Last Exit, where he led several award-winning interactive projects for their clients in the entertainment and technology industries.
Beach brings significant expertise and experience in the field of Internet video, digital asset management and rich media solutions. His expertise in video post-production, compression, and interactive design has attracted clients worldwide, including: Microsoft, Major League Baseball, Apple Computer, Adobe Systems, British Design Council, V2 Records, Universal Music, Paramount Pictures, Showtime Networks, and Samsung.

On March 19, Robertson Odom will be joining us to discuss using SWFObject to create a fool proof Flash embed code for your web pages and using SWF Address to create a 'history' of Flash site states in the browser (think, "yes I can use the back button with Flash").
